How do we know how many people agree with option B if nobody set up a petition in support of option B?
The people signing the petition think there will be a negative impact on society by Evans signing for SUFC. The people NOT signing the petition obviously don't think there will be a negative impact on society if he signs for SUFC, but also don't think there will be anything negative about him NOT signing for SUFC (being why there is no counter petition). The only people who might oppose this petition would be people who think SUFC would suffer as a result of him NOT signing AND care about SUFC not suffering. I think, considering how most on here do not expect to see 30+ goals-a-season-Ched-Evans as soon as he resumes his career, and how SUFC will almost certainly suffer off the field if he signs, the number of people in this potential counter group will be close to zero, if not zero.
If the petition was against him playing professional football full stop then there may well be a counter petition to prevent a precedent that threatens the rights of reformed criminals.
As I've said before, the petition is flawed and utterly pointless. Assuming that he will be able to find a professional club to give him a contract, if I set up a petition that was addressed to the other 91 league clubs' chairmen begging them to sign Evans up on his release to prevent him signing for SUFC, it wouldn't get 90,000 signatures (or indeed any at all). Yet that is effectively what the petitions is doing, sending a message to the footballing world that they don't want him playing for Sheffield United. Utter nonsense.
