Alcohol back in the Stands

I’m in favour.

Putting arguments aside on cost/quality virtually every other type of spectator entertainment leaves it to the venue/organiser to make the call on selling alcohol - which the vast majority do.

You can drink in the stands at non league football, women’s football and at every other pro football league in Europe.

Leave it up to the individual to decide where and when they want a drink. If somebody is determined to get drunk they will simply do it before the match, regardless of whether you can get a drink in the ground.

In fact, on away games especially, it’s usually the case people will get tanked up because they know there will be a 90 minute window where they can’t get a drink.

In terms of people getting up and down to go to the bar - it closes at kick off and doesn’t reopen til 38 minutes. No real need to change that.

With family and other commitments I don’t always have the time for the pub before or after so it would be nice to get a drink during the game. Maybe even get one at half time I don’t have to try and drink in 5 minutes.
No you can't , you can't drink alcohol in France , or Spain at the football

Burnham has been PM for about 3 months.

There are masses of problems that he needs to sort out and yet in such a short period of time he seems to think that drinking in football grounds is a priority.

Unbelievable.
Its actually a complete non story. It's something he said months/years ago before he was leader. He was asked if that's still his point of view. He said yes. But there's nothing going through to actually even debate changing the rules. It's just his personal opinion not a policy he's actively involved in

If you read past the headline it's made clear

Bramall Lane is the first away fixture most visiting fans look out for, mainly for the wonderful selection of pubs dotted around it. Nobody comes to the lane for it’s half time selection of stunning cuisine and fine ales

sort of sums it up

football fans know football fans very well. i think it will be disaster because last thing some fans need is to have to 6 pints. take when norwich scored their 3rd few weeks ago. that was clearly offside in build up. the linesman wouldve been pelted with plastic pint cups

I can see the appeal. I like a beer, I very much enjoy watching (for example) the cricket with a beer in hand. I could imagine enjoying watching United with a beer in hand.

But it's a very different kettle of fish. The only time you really get (I fucking despise this concept) "limbs" at cricket is at the end of a match, when losing your last half pint doesn't really matter. At football, you'd get the dickhead instagram wankers launching their pints into the air when someone got a corner, or made a robust tackle. It would be a fucking mess. You also get silly cunts who launch themselves onto you from the row behind at the slightest provocation. Good fun for a last minute winner in a tight, important game. Less enjoyable when it's cos you've gone 2-0 up against Halifax in the League cup.

Overall, and I genuinely surprise myself saying this, as I thought it's something I'd have wanted, I'd probably be against it. I can (and do) have a few pints before and after a match, without the risk of some twat launching a pint of warm, crap lager over my head, or knocking my own pint of warm, crap, overpriced lager out of my hands when I've just paid the GDP of a small country for it.

Why not?? Seemed to work ok in Bochum....granted the beer was marginally better than the absolute piss they sell at the Lane and granted there was feck all to get excited about so the "drenched in beer when we score" theory was untested...but yeah. Why not????

It’s definitely worth trialling in the lower leagues at least.

The beam back of the Northampton game at BL was one occasion I remember at the Lane where people could take their drinks to seats.

There was a lot of people getting up and down to the bar/toilets but don’t recall anybody chucking pints. This was 10 years ago though.

Drinks in seats have been allowed at women’s games for some time now. Obviously this comes with obvious caveats but it hasn’t caused any bother. Been quite nice to have a pint while watching the match.

If only there was some sort of flat surface close to you which you can put it on

I’d have thought you would have realised that people are stoooooooipid pal.

Best most of the people who can’t work out what the flat surfaces are, are Carling drinking, Labour supporters too

You talk as if you think he’s been doing all nighters tackling the alcohol in stands crisis. He’s given his view on something.

Bad idea, I remember sitting on H block one game wondering if the scruffy drunk with a carrier bag full of Stella was going to puke down my back. Luckily he never returned for the second half probably lapsed into a coma in one of the bogs at half time.
