Loved the games but even more that my then 11 yr old lad was with me, and got to see him almost spontaneously combust on more than one occasion. Yeah, looking back, it does feel like a lot of games were under the lights - the League cup run particularly. I still have the Radio Sheffield CD of the highlights of that season.

I’m quite sad and occasionally listen to the 4 mins from the Leeds game…

In more recent times my favourite game/atmosphere at the lane was when we beat Derby 3-1 around Christmas time in 2018, horrendous refereeing to try and aid frank lampard's derby and we rallied behind them to come from behind after a screamer from Harry Wilson for them, the crowd was raucous that second half and it often feels like a bad referee gets us going better than anything good from us!

The atmosphere are generally called air pollutants. They include a mix of harmful gases, toxic chemicals, and microscopic solid or liquid particles released by human activities (like driving cars and running factories) and natural events (like wildfires and volcanoes)

Or, more likely, the average age of a fan has shot up to about 85 in recent decades and they tend not to sing as much, diluting any atmosphere that would likely be made.

Living hundreds of miles away I get to about 6 games per season, usually half split between home and away, then watch rest on TV. When I go to home games I see lots more middle aged and elder people than younger ones with the split becoming more noticeable over the past few years. On TV when camera zooms on our fans, it gives a slightly different view and more than occasionally looks like we have gathered our fanbase from the set of Still Game Reckon most are knackered by 3pm (god knows how they make it to evening games). The club needs to hand out Werthers and Sanatogen before the game to get the old croakers moving.

The atmosphere from 16/17 - 19/20 right up until covid, the atmosphere at the lane was best i've ever experienced. After covid it never got going again sadly

I think it was a Boxing day game. My now daughter in law came with us, only her second Blades match. She was veru impressed that we hated Frank so much

Its an interesting point about the age demographic. Away games are interesting in the sense that it appears to show the majority of our away support being on the "old" side. Long away days particularly so. Swansea away this season was a particular case in point. Most of our fans wouldnt have looked out of place in a care home.....and yes...i include myself and my mates in that bracket too.

Compare to us at Wembley - slightly animated for 5-10 minutes, goal disallowed before HT, sulk in total silence for the rest of the game despite leading up until 76 minutes. Every time in that stadium, we are so weak, so deflating and hopeless. The stadium itself is atrocious but Palace show whats possible with a bit of effort

I complain about the atmosphere all the time but don't want to be anything like Palace. To not react to what's happening on the pitch just seems bizarre.

I thought we were great at Wembley against Hull, despite the problems with that stadium's acoustics.

Probably has something to do with cost of living, young people generally having to work more hours in shitter jobs to make ends meet, whilst older people tend to have a house paid off and a healthy pension. The cost and quality of the train down to Wales is horrendous.

Bang on, denied a blatant penalty on Didzy as he was about to score. Derby
went straight up the other end and a gust of wind blew Wilson over to win the free kick from which he scored. Never seen so much frothing from so many mouths because of the refs obvious bias.

Football is incredibly expensive now for younger people, many of whom are in insecure or low paid employment.

Season tickets still represent decent value but it was £37 for a ticket on JSS on Saturday…..away games you throw in the cost of travel (usually eye watering if it’s the train) and 4 pints is the best part of £35 these days.

I don’t think the club is even allowed to sell tickets to unaccompanied under 16s any more. The days of kids bringing their mates along for a laugh and getting them hooked are long gone.

No surprised then that football crowds are largely made up of the comfortably off middle aged…..and when people are paying a lot for the day out they expect some level of entertainment. Can you really blame people?

This goes hand in hand with the Sky Sports culture that gives the illusion that “every moment matters” constant excitement etc…..when in reality such games are very few and far between. Fans can’t appreciate the game they are watching for what it is and are encouraged to view everything in extreme rather than relative terms.

It’s the same at all grounds. You’ll get decent atmospheres for a few years at clubs who are enjoying some relative success but once they hit a downturn it starts to become “toxic”, as people like to say.

Then you add in mobile phones as a distraction, loads of people checking other scores, gambling apps, filming stuff.

Seems a lot are in in agreement that the age demographic has changed. I'm not so sure financial difficulties are the reason for fewer younger people attending.

As I said earlier I generally watch from afar these days and observe crowds at lots of matches. Over in S6 they always seem to have a very healthy quota of younger men watching, with a large block on the North stand next to the away fans. Same with their away crowds. Leeds also.

Have the club kidnapped the 18-35s and got them working on the new development at Dore? Could explain the 2k missing season ticket holders.

Outplayed by PUSBFLCC over both legs of the semis as well, really had everything going for them. Even the goal that got them through came off Ballard's neck/ shoulder.

when you consider with owls coming to at least 28 years outside the prem, anyone under 33 , if we discount up to 5 year olds, no one has experienced playing against arsenal , Liverpool or either of the manchester clubs in a league fixture.
