Crystal Palace gotta be up there for best home atmospheres

Triple assault season atmosphere will forever be unrivalled for our home atmospheres, was a hostile south stand just before modernisation from when the FA closed it for the flare incident. Stunk of ganja and cigarette smoke and was almost guaranteed kicking off after every game and wasnt many empty seats on G and H. Then came the football bans for the next 10 years, and that element of the club died out, along with the atmosphere at home games.

The Warnock days felt the best! I was a teen and even I felt like I was part of the army we had! I loved walking up to BL. It was so different back then!

I don't think it's just us. I was at the Southampton v Swansea game on Tuesday and the saints fans were very quiet. The younger generation just don't seem to be in to singing and only shout if there's something worth shouting about.

But saying that, to be fair to Swansea despite only bringing a few hundred they made a hell of a noise.

Unfair- Palace winning FA Cup against City was without doubt the best atmosphere ever created at Wembley. They started 30 mins before kick off and ended an hour after whistle. Non stop chanting - amazing support.

At the very top of my list too. FWIW, Altrincham in the rain in 1981(?), was the very bottom.

The trouble is, if you reminisce about nights like that to most 'modern' Blades fans, especially a select few on here, they'd cough their Caffe' Lattes down the front of their chino's at the very horror of it all. It's unbelievable how we have gone from that to being the Northern Reading in just a few short years. I believe that it's only a matter of time before we get those cardboard clapper things. I do envy Leeds and their support, I must admit.

Unfair- Palace winning FA Cup against City was without doubt the best atmosphere ever created at Wembley. They started 30 mins before kick off and ended an hour after whistle. Non stop chanting - amazing support.

Sometimes went to Selhurst Pk when I worked in Croydon. Atmosphere made normal Sty games seem reasonable.

Social media, phones and every game being available somehow or other without attending are a few things. All seater stadiums, and covid made it worse. Also I don't reckon it helps that for years now you've been able to watch top European sides free flowing football.
But the worst thing of all is the money needed to make a successful side. And the money players are paid. It's obscene. Along with fucking agents.
And no, it's not only us.

hahaha brilliant yeah i know i've got a few hardcore Leeds fans as mates and went to watch the Josh Warrington fights with em. They are it pains me to say some of the best supporters in the country, when it comes to following their club, and they will just get bigger now they're back in prem for a extended period of time. Ground extension plans steaming ahead. all things we are promised that never materialise with our owners.

I Just think we are a family club now and they shut all the good pubs we grew up going to and replaced em Fancy bars offering prosecco brunch's and student accomodation.

I've wondered about the demographic. Whenever I see shots of the crowd at our games these days I see far fewer 'football lads' than I would expect to see. Men aged 18-35ish. The type that typically make most noise at matches and travel to away games in larger groups. Yes I know men and women either side of that age range can make a noise as well! Admittedly I don't get to many games these days so I'm probably not the best person to judge but it's something I've observed. I could be wrong. I started going in 1981.

Every time in that stadium, we are so weak, so deflating and hopeless. The stadium itself is atrocious but Palace show whats possible with a bit of effort

Exact. Let’s face it Sunderland volume put us to shame at Wembley. But I don’t think Wilder bottled that game I think we were better for 60% of that game and Sunderland got very lucky. Saying that we would never have spent 140 million on a complete new team.

Or, more likely, the average age of a fan has shot up to about 85 in recent decades and they tend not to sing as much, diluting any atmosphere that would likely be made.
