Cannon?

He played well. Encouraging signs finally so let's back him. If he starts firing he could make a huge impact this season. Would be fun to see him play with Ayew.

I assume he cupped his ear to the fans because he played for Preston and he was getting grief?
There have been encouraging signs previously, but far more isolated cases. I think the two performances against Blackburn have allowed him to show himself much more and if he keeps making those runs and his team mates see the runs to play the ball, he'll get a decent goal haul.

As is always the way, you have to play to the strengths of the striker.

His all round game was decent yesterday.

Don't want to get ahead of myself but I think he has shown he may be capable of at least being effective this season. Good header win for the second, too. A mile away from the first game of the season where I honestly don't think we'd have been any worse off with 10 players.

Incredibly frustrating player 90% of the time, touch lets him down more often than not, gets knocked off the ball far too easily and often looks lost....but....he's our top scorer with 3 in the last 5 games, carry on that form and he's getting 15 to 20 goals this season and I would swap him being generally poor for that kind of return any day of the week.

He actually headed the ball a few times, tackled once and dribbled a number of times, he also ran about the most I have seen from him. His number one attribute is that he can finish, keep it up Tom.

He actually wins a header in the build up to Peck's goal, more of that please

I think most fans would say there's a player there but we aren't suited to match him, but frustratingly there are occasional signs which gives us all a bit of hope - here's hoping we're starting to crack the code to get more out of him

"Would be fun to see him play with Ayew" I don't disagree, but imagine telling us we'd be in this position a couple of years back!

If Cannon starts banging then in regularly now I’m going to be eating humble pie. Especially after I compared him to Lunny after the Brum game.

Wilders going to be giving it the biggun to fans who doubted the signing.

His inability to win any form of duel is what has been my biggest gripe with him by far but last night managed to win all three ground duels and 7/12 of his aerial ones. Quickly looking through some of his games this season and that’s by far the best rate he’s had. Forget the goals he needs to keep this up.

That’s the frustrating thing.

Nobody has an issue with yesterday’s display. But he can’t play Blackburn every week(!)

It’s when he’s totally anonymous that folk get frustrated.

I’m not saying he has to score each game to impress (would be nice), but yesterday should be the bar; winning headers, chasing down, competing.

Fans will support that and he’ll be more effective for it. He may well even increase his value.

He took ages with one good chance but it did seem that we started to get an idea on the sort of service he appreciates. Not sure who put him through when he dawdled but Peck picked his run well for the goal. Hope Peck moves further forward and than combo repeats.

This recent form also means we may well not have to flog Bamford to death either. He’s 33 next. We need him to last the season, not be burnt out by October.

If we can have a three up top, those wide players that started and rotating when appropriate Cannon and Bamford, it’s fine for now. Campbell and Ayew can deputise on the flanks especially while others are injured and ideally not rushed back.

As much as we'd love to play Blackburn every week, it was a tongue in cheek comment.

Play to the strikers strengths

A lot of the hoof ball he has been out jumped by taller CBs in past games, when you watch the 2nd goal last night in particular, he managed to get in between the CB/LB and midfield jump up and head back inside that led to the 2 passes to Pecks goal. As a player he is definitely a striker where you want him running onto the ball or to feet. How much is that just route one punt and see who knows but against the bottom half of the championship teams we are likely to pick up results this way. Against the likes of Southampton/ West Ham we would have to be smarter but I can’t see us beating them playing like we did last night

He did well, but guaranteed we won't see this performance till mid-October now! His next goal will be a penalty!

Confidence and aggression. If he can find those elements week in week out, he'll be far more effective. Maybe he doesn't naturally have a nasty streak to his personality, but look at Billy. On the field, he was a terrier, enjoyed needling oppo players. In fact, as he aged, it was one of the things he relied on more and more to find the half a yard he needed.

I don't know if it's been consciously coached into him, but Cannon is looking a lot more useful with his back to goal and is doing more of the general donkey work - challenging for headers, winning a few, making a nuisance of himself outside of the box and having an impact on the game outside of the box.

He's an instinctive finisher, but it's the other bits that were missing which probably cost him the prolonged runs in the team and sustained starts and the opportunities to improve his goals tally.

Being in and out then effects sharpness and confidence, and he got himself stuck in that circle.

He's been our best striker so far this season and I hope that continues.

I feel sorry for Cannon.
Until this anti football dinosaur of a manager does one we are going to bore the shit out of 99% of the fan base.

We need a new manager who knows modern day football and coaches the team properly.
Yes I agree to a certain extent, I personally wouldn’t let him go because I’d be terrified he might go to a club with a more enlightened manager (and orthodox wingers) and start ripping it up.
