Challenge: pick a midfield trio

Let's say we decide to try and stop getting cut to fucking ribbons by any half competent team with a bit of mobility and decide to pack the midfield a bit to make us more competitive

Who do you pick?

There's not a single decent combination among them

They're all either very central CMs or fucking legless, mostly both

The best wide CM option we have is Shackleton FFS

We've brought in 4 CMs since January yet have zero variation

Shackleton Phillips Peck - is that the best we can do?

Peck Phillips Riedewald?

It's a laughable situation regardless of the owners' rug pulling

I understand the concerns about Blaster but I’m not comfortable writing him off until I’ve seen him play more football post-injury. I’m confident he’s the best passer of the ball we have in that position.

Let Phillips stay deep with the other two given a bit more freedom to get forward. Attacking full backs.

Phillips looks like what he is - a player who hasn't extended himself for years

At the speed he now moves he'll need a couple of Fede Valverdes flanking him

I'd want it to be Blaster Phillips Riedewald but Blaster is still on a long road back, if he ever even gets back to form.

We need to go to 4-5-1. We are getting over run in midfield. Campbell, Diaz not good enough. We lack.pace all over the pitch.

I'd want it to be Blaster Phillips Riedewald but Blaster is still on a long road back, if he ever even gets back to form.

He wasn’t that good previous he had potential and struggled badly in a third of the games he played in 24/25

Rothwell offers nothing
Phillips is OK, but slow
Choudhury, slow, but not a full back
Arblaster needs loaning out till January for fitness
Peck needs a rest, though has to play to make the numbers up
Shackleton ends up, at least trying

He’s on paternity leave now. A new baby will impact him %. If we weren’t so shit I’d have loaned him out to a top end League One side.

I wonder if Chongs best role might be left of a 3. Maybe clutching at straws, to put some hopi in Chong, but remember he was man of the ma t h against us a few years back playing that ro;e for Brum. Given Diaz never goes near the left touchline, having a midfielder who can fitl that space as well when needed and help us keep our width and balance.

Id go with Peck , Philips and Rothwell / Jairo .

Choudry needs a bit of match sharpness but would be a decent replacement until he has a full 90 in him .

I agree with this. I realise he should play a formation that combats the opposition tactics, although when we played 5-3-2 under Wilder MK 1 we made the opposition worry about us, but I think that formation would suit us especially now we've got Kitching as a natural left sided CB and in theory it would make us more solid.

I understand he's playing Hamza at RB but he's obviously another that's not match fit, but didn't we sign Shackleton as an RB? He looks to have more energy so currently I'd line up :

Cooper
Shackleton - Tanganga - McGuinness - Kitching - McCallum/Burrows
Arblaster - Phillips - Peck
Bamford - Campbell/Donovan

You could even play Donovan at LWB as he gets up and down and likes a tackle as well as his obvious ability on the ball.
