If you’re looking at it from the point of view that we don’t currently have enough defenders and having a back up is better than not having one, then I’d understand this but…

… he wasn’t good enough when he was here and he hasn’t improved. To make matters worse, we haven’t addressed this issue (if he does in fact come back) and yet we’ve known about the situation long enough to have pursued other options.

If it happens, questions need to be asked of the manager and the management of the club.

Just for balance …. Whilst we all know JLT made some bad errors, he was also an exceptionally hard-working, wholehearted player who always gave us everything. While I don’t think we should be looking for a reunion, I also think that he deserves a lot less derision on here… especially when you look at how he performed during our last PL season… he was one of very few to play consistently well throughout.
All players make mistakes. For me JLT’s positive contributions far outweigh his negatives for the Blades and we certainly lack character at the back since he left. I think Doherty may well bring some of that aggression back to us… and we badly need it.
