Anel is a quality CB, but he needed an Egan next to him to be at his best. Tanganga is the same. Would love to see Anel back, but I’m not sure they’d work well together. However, the reported £10m for Souttar is far too much IMO and would clearly leave the coffers empty. If we could get Anel for £4-5m, it’s definitely worth exploring and would hopefully leave some cash for a winger... Reyes Cleary maybe

Anel really doesn't strike me as the type who'd be interested in moving back

Especially given the multitude of different leagues/countries he'll have viable options in

If he did come back to England it would at least have to be somewhere like West Ham or Wolves (and if I were either I'd sign him)

£4.5 million for Anel essentially a free trade, with amortisation. Offer 24k a week, leaves us with £1.5 million to pay 30k of Jack Clarkes wage for the year on loan.

It’s not me saying I don’t want Souttar just seems a steep price, what I lot of people aren’t asking is did Anel flatter or aid Souttars style. Putting him next to tanganga might be a different experience, we know that when wilder spends money it’s often wasted. Certainly some low level alarming bells ringing.

I love Souttar and believe if fit he's a great player, but the price is rather crazy. We don't seem to have any alternatives/back up options when pursuing a player and end up paying through the nose for someone we want. I'm hoping that it's a deal that goes up to £10m IF we get promoted. I'm not going to moan too much though, at least the board have finally spent some money.

Maybe it's because we sell a lot of quality players.

I think its because of our situation over the past few years. We have been up and down which has meant signing good players, dropping down and then not being able to keep them. That and loan signings who we wish we could have kept but go on to be better than the level we are at.

If we were a Preston for example, (which we might now become for a few seasons) we would see players join, develop, move on, but usually as they are either not good enough (and the standard doesn't change) or too good, they move upwards and theres not a world that they come back.

If we got promoted, we would be mad not to look at players like Anel and Vini coming back as the standard we would require would have changed and we could be competitive financially. As it stands, there is no way Anel is coming back here to play championship football with an outside chance of success.
