Outgoing? Diego Di Girolamo

Seems like the only people who don't rate him are people who have something against him being called Diego Raymond De Girolamo. I wish people would leave off the ' wouldn't be rated if he was called Darren' line. Cloughy looks like he is trying to give him some tough love wish sometimes we all need.

I am looking forward to seeing how he does for Italy over the summer.

Clearly clubs like Arsenal and Juventus, amongst others, are only scouting him because of his name. o_O

I really doubt Cloughie would fall out with him over the wearing of a hat, unless Diego wanted to train in it! But if, and it's a big if, he has, it could end up being to our detriment. I'm all for discipline, but if De Girolamo is as good as he's hyped up to be, he could wear a jester's hat for all I care. As long as he does his job in training and on the pitch, which is where Clough's jurisdiction lies, and he doesn't upset the other players, that is what counts.

I like Clough, it's hard not to, considering what he has done for us, but I don't want him to make the step up from disciplinarian to dictator.

Clough has said he thought it could be a big boost for the likes of Khan, Reed and Dimaio to have had a taste of first team action this season. Was the last match of the season a missed opportunity to at least have DeGirolamo on the bench instead of the soon to be sent back Paynter?

If we'd decided to not risk him until next season, then maybe it would have been good to tell the media this, to avoid the current speculation and rumours?

But that's exactly what Clough said towards the end of the season when quizzed on the transfer speculation back then: http://www.s24su.com/forum/index.php?threads/diego-off.34326/#post-597488

He's maintained that he always needed a good pre-season so that he can compete next season. Not really sure what else is expected - he's unlikely to do a running commentary of every rumour.

diego finished the season with a sore ham string which has been troubling him for a while lets give the lad some space .
cloughie will know what is best for diego ,all this pressure does not help him at all

I know he said he needed a good pre-season, but I didn't think it ruled out a runout in the last game. De Girolamo started the last U18 game on 23 April, though he only played the first half.

As we've now established that he was injured and we made the decision not to risk him in any of the final games of last season, we can move on and hope he'll get to show his potential next season.

I'd use his attude to our advantage and send him out on the pitch to prove he's all that, I suspect he'll be undisclosed to "premier league clause" leicester....

Please though, can we see him play before flogging him off, its like a mystical legend "Diego" the chosen one, its a saga now..

In truth, I'm fed up to death of this, because like a lot of blades I haven't seen him play a full game, so what do we know we are losing, he could be another shearer, or another Cher..

Do we still need £500.000 this badly??

Read on twitter from a Tranmere fan who is mates with a few of their players that he may be joining them on loan. Should be a beneficial move I would have thought

This would be a good move for Diego, they seem to have done well with James Wallace and I like Tranmere as a club. They now have Mark Palios involved there and seem to be looking to rebuild again.

He’s still a developing player and he needs a consistent run of games to build confidence and match fitness, it might do him some good to be away from the Blades and at a different club, it seems to work for some players.

If he has only a year left on his contract, we may not see him again in a Blade's shirt. I wonder what happened to the interest from the elite clubs of Europe. The must have seen something to make them lose interest. Perhaps before sending him out on loan, we should have extended his contract?

Would be a good move for him, if he cant hack it at Tranmere then hes not going to be good enough for us.

We've been talking about him now for almost 2 years and he's only played for our first team on a few occasions, you can't miss what you don't have.

Good luck to him though.

If he’s only got a year left on his contract he’s probably being sent out to give himself a chance to earn an extension/ new contract.
I’m guessing that a year out with a serious knee injury and reconstruction has held a few elite teams back, plus the fact that they’ve not watched him play any competitive football.

We should get him to sign a new two year deal before loaning him anywhere, when he has a taste of first team football he will want it regularly and then demand more money. Now is the best time to sign him for a couple more years at a cheap wage even if it is a risk he might not develop into the player we want him to.

Tranmere would be a great move for him though.

I very much doubt he'll sign a new contract if there's any interest at all from higher up the leagues. Why sit on his arse for us every Saturday when he could be doing exactly the same for a Prem/Champ club?

If he breaks through and starts a few league games it might be different, but there's no sign of that. It'll be really disappointing if he slopes away after all the hype.

Why does anyone think anyone further up the league would be remotely interested in a player who has played twice in the third division and has suffered a serious injury?

This may be premature, but my prediction is the he will leave next summer, spend the rest of his career in the lower divisions or non league and will be occasionally mentioned on this site on the "why was he never given a chance" threads.

He's performed well for Italy U19's by all accounts. I'm sure a club over there will take a punt.

If you are thinking someone like Juventus or Inter, I beg to differ. If you are thinking someone in Serie B or lower, I hardly think DDG will uproot himself to be paid less than he would get in the English 4th Division.

Iv'e seen him a lot of times up at the academy, and it might not be a good barometer as to how good he is or going to be,but for me Darren ,he's going to be some player once fully tuned.
