Player Suggestion Souttar played and scored last night

If we have £8m to spend then surely there are better ways to spend it to give long term stability.

Souttar won't be coming on small wages.
I have been very vocal in how worried I am this season and critical.

So appearing to 'moan' when we make bids etc I know may look bad. However I just don't see the strategy, especially long term. Signing souttar and a few on loan won't make us promotion candidates this season. There is a far longer road ahead until that point.

I'd love us to invest in players on sensible wages, players who are long term investments and will be here for all the phases of the rebuild.

This type of signing seems like expensive gambling. I'm bored of the stress.

No up sale on him
We never learn, you do not spend the bulk of your budget on players who will not increase in value, especially when we have sold our only two creative players who need replacing.

No tactics
No players of value
No idea
Thing is, we could be using some funds on some players from league 1, i.e the way Millwall have operated. Femi Azeez cost them £1m... They could have sold him to Ipswich for £20m in January just gone. Their recruitment model is exactly how it should be. They've sold Esse and replaced him with 2 or 3 players for a fraction of what they've earned, and it continues to work for them. They've got assets there in Crama, Azeez, Ivanovic and Neghli where their bound to get profits on. Hell, they saw us coming with Japhet. £7.5m made on a free transfer..

Depends on how the £8m? bid is made up.

How much of that is a down payment, how much is guranteed to have to be paid, and how much is target based i.e. performances made etc. It could have been £5m guaranteed with an extra £2m dependent on various things, which has now been bumped up to £6m plus £2m, etc.

Id bw amazed if United were agreeable to just slapping a straight £8m down on the table. Hes not worth it tbh and i like him as a defender.

I hope he signs, would be a great addition to the back 4, we desperately need him, will give the fans a boost and show we are willing to spend.

But yes, this is Brayford v2 with the hyper focus
It just feels we regularly do this now; go all in one player, with no apparent options b and c. The problem then is, the other club knows this and we end up paying over the odds. I've no issue us spending money, but it has to be smarter

Yes it’s a lot for a CB in the last year of his contract with a club in financial peril.

Yes there may still be lingering question marks regarding long term injuries.

But this lad was my #1 target this summer and if we can get him, at an inflated price, I’m all over it.

He makes a HUGE difference to our solidity at the back which was something badly lacking last year.

If it’s taken the departure of Hamer, a wonderful player at his best, to finance this deal, it enhances us rather than detracts.

Mostly cos Hamer is no left sided player 👀.

yeah agree weasel we were always going to up our bid for souttar once the hamer deal got done personally disagree with a lot on here think thats a fair price but i would definetly not go any higher if leicester want more walk away cant see them getting 10m for him

I think he's contracted until 2028 there so has 2 years left

Don't think £8m is that much of a fee or maybe I am judging that against PL moves or even Brooks moving to Norwich.

If he comes and plays to the level we know then £8m is a nothing fee for what should be a key signing.

Will he be int stands today? Love a good camera pan. Maybe Gary Weaver will amble over and interview him (mid match)?

All this moaning about paying £8m. You'd all be going crackers if we didn't sign him. Leicester have their price and we have to pay it if we want him.

A great player at a great age with potential to be a saleable asset.

This signing will give so much confidence for squad. A quality solid CB that we are so desperate for.

£8m for the best CB in the league? #Gerrimthefuckinalready

If we get him, I wonder if he will be made captain also. Not only would him playing next to tanganga improve him anyway but taking the captaincy off him also and letting him concentrate on just being a good defender might improve him also. I don't think tanganga strikes as having natural leadership qualities either, which possibly highlights what CW was talking about with lack of leaders etc.

It’s actually getting a bit embarrassing now. He’ll sign at the last minute and wilder will spend the rest of the season moaning that he didn’t get a full preseason

Think Leicester are heading for another points deduction as their wage bill must still be way over the limit as they still have not off loaded that many from last season. They probably don’t care & are gambling that they can blitz League 1 and absorb even a 6 pt deduction. So we regrettably need to forget Souttar - Leicester won’t sell him for any less than £10 million & frankly given his recent injury I would be paying more than £5 million.
