Bettis resigns ?

Sorry but that bag of shyte we fetched in last summer at stupid fees contracts and wages was incompetent all round that’s not a comment in hindsight it’s what many said at the time

Agreed.

My impression is that Bord convinced the Yanks that he knew football, and played with his analysis tools. I don't imagine Selles had much say over the AI Bulgarians; but I'd imagine he was screaming for Mee, Ings et al, to try and save his own skin.

Ii don't think any of us know whether Hoyland or Bettis had much 'say' in it.

So as assumed before, the running of the entire club - budgets, playing staff, commercial, marketing, contracts, transfers and ticketing, is by 2 people.

And some posters don't see this as an issue?

Last summer's signings fit into three categories:

Bord (AI/conveniently bought from other clubs he had an interest in): Nwachuckwu/Ukaki/Polendakov/Zätterström/Soumaré

Sellés: Bindon (loan)/Godfrey (loan)/Barry (loan)/Matos/Ings/Mee

Hoyland (using Wilder's shortlist): Tanganga/McGuinness/Ogbene (loan)/Chong(y)

They're all equally to blame for the fact that none of those fifteen signings was a success.

I presume you meant 'CAN' go wrong.

You could chuck Everton and Chelsea in there too.

Our keyboard warriors rubbish Horland and scream for a 'proper DoF', without seeing, or perhaps wanting to see, how difficult it is,

Yes, Bournemouth, Brentford and Brighton are brilliant at it, but most other clubs aren't.

There is no panacea, no magic bullet and more importantly, no money tree.
You fell for my finely tuned sarcasm 😊

I agree 100 with your post btw 😊

No. They want to replace that with two other people who have fancy titles and have authority without responsibility.
That’s the crux of it.

“Don’t like this one. Let’s change it.
Don’t like that one, let’s change it - oh, Shit, we can’t. They’re untouchable now so we will sack the new head coach and get another one. There’s plenty more where they came from. I’m happy at least because now we have stability and continuity. We’re still underperforming but at least we can beam at other clubs because we have the same set up as those other under performing clubs”

My point being is you have multiple key departments within the club being ran by a single point of failure. That’s not sustainable for any multi million pound business, never mind a football club

I see it like this..
With Wilder we'll do ok and may even be competitive in the Championship with a limited budget. He might even get us promoted which based on budgets and squads would be a huge overachievement in current circumstances.
Without Wilder I have little to no confidence that the board and Bettis will find anyone competent to replace Wilder. Wilder is our single point of failure but he's very competent at Championship level.
Problem only materialises if we fluke promotion again. In that event Wilder needs competent help on recruitment at PL level with what would likely be the smallest budget in the PL and poorest starting squad. It's nearly impossible for us to stay up to be honest without a very rich benefactor at PL level.

We know your vehemently against a DOF at the moment and some disagree, thats clear.

Lots of opinions on here although the only one that matters is that of the owners and how they want the club to be run , as it is or differently. Thats thier privilege.

No doubt it is or will have been considered, if they go with a different structure it'll take a year or 2 and a few transfer windows to see any difference in reality.
If they do change structure positive results next season wont be due to having a DOF or not , neither will negative results.
I suspect alot would be going on with the coaching and fitness infrastructure but very much behind the scenes.
You might say why bother then ?
Its how the club looks in future is probably what the owners might consider , maybe long after Wilder and Bettis have moved on.

So if it changes it'll not be success or disaster immediately due to it .

We have to let the owners do thier thing , whatever that might be.

This is why the board - including Bettis, need to recognise that there is very little footballing knowledge or experience within the club and get a proper structure in place to deal with the footballing side of things, and not just rely on Wilder being our manager and hoping he flukes a promotion.

I have no doubt that Bettis is very good at what he does, but let him get on with what he's good at rather than spread him out across the entire operations of the club. Is it any wonder that we seem to start every season underprepared in terms of late transfers that appear to take an eternity to get over the line, selling players without having replacements lined up, overspending on areas and players that we don't need, and going for the same pool of players every year?

Genuine question. When he started at the club wasn't he was based in the US and working for us part time? With how slow things take on the transfer front, I do wonder if this is this still the case.

Seems a lot of people at the club are part time.

5000 WOW points winging their way to Stephen

Celebrate 10 years by signing some good players! If we stay as we are, we'll be fighting relegation!
The current squad is more than capable of of avoiding relegation. The real question is what are the overall expectations of the owners. The next 3 weeks should go most of the way to answering that question.

Think 3 weeks is too late I’d say we need at least 2 in before next Saturday or we can write that game off dreading next Saturday season ticket holder an I’m not looking forward to it it’s gonna be another long painful season let’s just hope there’s 3 worser teams than us

It’s not too late if real quality arrives. Remember where we and Forest were early in the season they went up.
If we lose a couple of early matches I am not concerned, as long as the arrivals are good.

Our re build needs to start with the immediate sacking of anyone who refers to or claims to be a 'culture carrier'.

A bullsh*t, David Brent quality phrase that deflected from what we actually need from people. Hence where we find ourselves now.

The really dangerous part? Large parts of our support willingly bought it too, as was the intention.

They were mugged off.

Has anyone ever seen/heard the phrase "culture carrier" used in a non Sheffield United context? Genuine question because I don't think I have

It’s a widely used business term, not just in sport. You can even go on specific training courses to learn how to become one…
Generally speaking, it is a valued characteristic in the real world.

I've been in work, management and strategic advisory roles for 44 years and never heard it refererred to.

'Culture change' - yes, on a department or organisation level but not in some poorly referenced personal quality terms.

And it doesnt appear in job spec's or role profiles, for good reason.

Here’s a thought then. Do a quick Google search on “ culture carrier” and educate yourself on the topic. It would take you much less time than perpetuating a pointless and uninformed argument on here, and, more importantly, save everybody else the time of having to wade through the useless drivel while searching for something interesting to read about the Blades.
