In the spirit of speaking something into existence:
  • Harry Souttar (permanent from Leicester)
  • Jack Clarke (loan from Ipswich)
  • Ross Stewart (free agent)
  • Kalvin Phillips/Ben Sheaf
Signing these would make us a serious contender this season, you can sell Hamer and Peck to get them in.

Ben sheaf- crocked
Kalvin Phillips- 30 going on 40. Injury prone
Ross Stewart- injury prone
Jack Clarke- no chance Ipswich would loan him
Harry Souttar- I think we all would love him back. Hopefully this comes off.

I’d go for

Melker Widell - Swansea

Gustavo Sá- Famalicão

Ben Sheaf sounds like our sort of player.

Hamer can make a pass, shoot on goal, get the odd worldy......Phillips cannot do any of the above......he's never on the pitch for starters.....

Without a similarly gifted player ready to be signed why the haste to get rid of Hamer?
We lack creativity in midfield so why the rush to get rid of the one player capable of producing
that level of skill?
I personally think we look disjointed with him in the team. He’s on the wing, but not a winger. Other than that, he doesn’t track back because he doesn’t have the fitness to, so resorts to pulling players back and getting easy yellow cards, getting suspended for numerous games a season. He gives up possession quite frequently in dangerous areas. He’s technically very gifted and has scored some great goals, but I think we’d be better as a team without him.

Forget Ross Stewart hes another injury waiting to happen.
Youd be better with Rod Stewart, his last appearance at the lane was quite impressive.

Admittedly he’s not got the best injury record, but he’s top quality when fit. When Bamford isn’t playing we’ve got no one up there, it’s a significant drop off. Stewart would fix that and he’s a free agent! No brainer for me.

As with several other posters, I agree that Gus playing on the left may not be his best position, but it's where Wilder wants to play him so que sera. Yes, tracking back isn't a strong point with Hamer, a definite weakness but maybe one that needs rethinking as otherwise where does the attacking creativity currently come from? I've no real objection to watching a team minus Gus but only if we have a genuine attacking threat to replace what Gus offers.

What type of contender?
