Anyone know a player of this name who was a youngster training at United with Wilder back in the 80s who then went to Leeds?

Reason I ask is that my son has been in Northern Ireland this week as his girlfriend lives there and whilst in a pub near Hillsborough (yeah 🙄) that he's been in a few times before, so has met a few staff and regulars, he was introduced to a bloke who drinks in there because they know my son is a Blade.

My son thought I'd know who he was as I'm in my 50s and grew up with two or three lads who trained with United in this period.

It's not a name I'm familiar with at all, but he was telling my son about training at United with Wilder and then going to Leeds and playing at Anfield.

Admitted he didn't make a go of it and left the game early.

Not suggesting he's a Walter Mitty but dont know the name and Google isn't giving me much.

I would assume that the player in question is Pete Batey. He was an apprentice at United at one point before being released. He is a huge leeds fan. He eventually joined the parachute regiment and was stationed in northern Ireland where he met a girl and eventually settled. He had a very successful career in the Irish League where we were teammates for a number of years.

That sounds very much like the fella and my son has misheard the surname. Thanks.
