My mistake then, I assumed he came through their youth team. If they paid 9m for him and he scored 10 championship goals last season there's no chance hes coming here. Villa must have decided hes not good enough for them so now hes proven at Championship level they are going to take the highest bid they get for him. Why would they loan him out again and see him being a year nearer the end of his contract where he goes for free?

Last season seemed pretty long to me. It doesn't sound optimistic though, what happened to the list the board agreed to and all was going to be done early? Just a mo though, they say that every year, you'd think after 65 years plus of it I would have worked it out by now.

It’s a pity as he had decent stats in terms of goals and assists.

At this point, now that it looks doomed to failure (!) it is worth pointing out that transfermarkt reckons he was playing up front most of the time rather than on the wing.

It does take the edge slightly off his 11 goals in 41 and 8 assists, though not much!

Brereton-Diaz got 8 goals and 3 assists in 43 matches whilst predominantly playing on the wing.

Just saying; I’d imagine Saints don’t fancy him. Probably be happy for us to take him off their hands. Could bounce back with the right management…

I think we can and should do better than him.

BBD mk 1 was great for us and one of the few players who actually looked comfortable in the premier league that season. Not sure what happened to him in between, but he looked slow and unfit the 2nd time around. But miraculously his form picked up again at Derby.

He is a decent player on his day, and certainly likes to have a shot. I think he would be best in a front 2 rather than on the wing, but I don't see us playing him there.
