He wasn’t bad and ( never thought I’d say this - they were playing against a very good front foot full of frightening pace team playing at home

Possibly, but it was stuff like completely getting caught out under a high ball a couple of times that made me think he's lost a step.

There is a rumour flying around that it's already a done deal. It's not my info, just repeating what someone has said on here.

That was me. Nothings changed as far as I can tell. I was led to believe it’s all but done.

As with all info I receive from previous contacts, I’d never put my mortgage on it, however my source was confident pre-WC. He said 8/10 done.

I’ll chase him today, see if there’s any more but it’s doubtful with the cup on.

For all the talk of Souttar (and I do love him and would take the gamble) - he's only played 28 games in the last 3 seasons.
The much maligned "always injured" Kalvin Phillips has managed 46.

I don't mind us signing both as the quality they have is superior to what we currently hold - but I hope we're not hanging our hats on either of them playing 46 games - they'll do well to manage half that based on the last few seasons.

It feels like we are being left behind… whilst other clubs improve feels like we are getting worse
Don’t we have this every year?

No firm evidence that we’re bidding for a player
We get linked
Other clubs get linked
As sign other players
Player were linked with goes elsewhere
Fans go mad as we should’ve signed the player we were linked with..

Rinse and Repeat.
We do seem too fanny about when it comes to transfers.
The cynic in me thinks we do this on purpose, get linked with players we know we have no chance of signing, then somebody comes along and signs them we then trot out the tired excuses we can't compete with what Shrewsbury Town are paying, Its like we are used as a stalking horse.
You would think after losing Brooks the club would be desperate too get some positivity back amongst the fans.

You also think Brexit was a success

I think the point was that I know we miss out on targets, that’s been well documented over the years, but not every decent player that gets linked is on our radar, not everyone fits the bill and sometimes we might just want another player entirely

We do seem to piss about but then again so does everyone else.

Right now Souttar is at the World Cup, so he won’t have any other focus than that

Birmingham and Wrexham are allegedly interested, does that mean we aren't also interested? It's a bit too early to say we are being left behind as nobody has signed him yet.

Although he will probably look at those two clubs and think they are more likely to get promoted than us.

Even if Brum and Disney are interested, neither has parachute payments and are bound by the same financial rules as us. 85% etc. I don't think they'll be out paying us - Disney don't have a great deal of high quality players to sell and make money and their general turnover will be considerably lower than ours - smaller ground , smaller local fan base etc - although I guess sponsorship money could be a factor, and I'd guess that The Blues are comparable to us in terms of turnover, if not size of the owners bank balance.

Maybe I'm missing something re: the new financial rules, but to me it seems like if a club hasn't got parachute money, they can't buy their way to the top.

Buying your way to success ?
Or - at least - being allowed to spend £.
£ you might have or you stole from creditors.
Sit down whilst I tell you a tale ...

It's called 'The EFL & Storchy's pigs'

Nothing new being left behind! Been happening for years mate, skint owners, poor recruitment, unfit players, managers juggling poor budgets! When you get left behind with such clubs as Brentford/ Bournemouth, its a worry were we will eventually end up! In my 60 odd years of going its usually down.

We've let Jiro go to fund Phillips and sold Brooks to afford Souttar...
Then both fall through. Excellent 😅

There are about 11 clubs more likely to get promoted than us.

Wrexham's income is north of £50m. They'll be absolutely fine to invest £15-20m again this summer. The silver lining is that they have Phil Parkinson calling the shots so they'll piss it all up the wall again.
