Yes, on numerous occasions. I’ve posted on here before about the marked differences between the atmospheres at English and Scottish games. Similarly with holiday experiences. A generalisation, but Scottish people do seem to be more genial drunks, there’s never the same feeling that something’s going to kick off.
Ok not seen that, was just interested.

I’ve personally experienced great atmospheres around England fans when I’ve travelled in the past. Just boozing, singing and the general good nature. There are exceptions. Similar with Scottish.

Of course it becomes a bit dicey when we eventually lose but that’s normal with all fans I’ve seen overseas as well.

I wouldn’t pick one over the other, I’d pick the people, the pub, location etc though. The days of box park or walkabout are long behind me. I’d go to fanzones, I went to Dubai fan parks for Qatar as I was there anyway. The behaviour was very Dubai but so was the pub sponsored fan park.

I take the same approach to music concerts, I don’t mix in with the knobheads bouncing around.

I’ve learnt over the years, I think probably like yourself

I used to go to Blades away games as much or possibly more than home games, but post covid away games something changed. The people and me. It had become far more lawless and toxic, the police not intervening but filming instead. It wasn’t like that as much in 2019 promotion season but a year or so later things had become toxic.

I think Scottish can be as bad as English, but so can the Dutch and other nationalities. The problem is often in what people take to make them behave like they do.

Been to one England tournament game vs Wales in euro2016 and it was a brilliant, friendly atmosphere pre, during and post game. Also went to England vs Wales at Old Trafford some time in 2000s and that was a much more tense affair from both sides.

I broadly think most British fans are about the same across all teams and nations, with 90% not being there to punch someone else in the head. But people like to pretend that other 10% are representative of the fanbase of clubs they don’t like whilst thinking the 90% represent their own club.

Went to the Springvale last night to watch the game.

A group of fat pig fans sat on table next to me started throwing chips at each other and scrapping between themselves before one of them flounced off (leaving a full pint on the table, no Blade would ever do that) while the sole woman in the group was shouting “leave it he’s not worth it”

Glorious stuff.

used to love the springvale when I lived down there in 2003

Slight tangent but found this video from the always excellent Adam Clery about Scotland really, really interesting.

If you look at the points he’d making he could be talking about Sheffield United at any point in the last four seasons.

It’s quite near to my house but I don’t usually go in as it’s dead in the evenings these days and very Carling & Strongbow heavy.

They have a great set up in the beer garden for the football though. 2 big screens a bar and toilets outside. Probably about 300 sat outside.

Wow. I don’t remember them having a beer garden back then. It was a weird one as it was massive and got busy with students so I can imagine nowadays it doesn’t get the same business, especially in summer.

It was always cheap but the barmaids were stunning. I think the manager knew what he was doing in that respect

12 months is a long temporary

Nah, not really. It's also a completely different team, management and environment so largely irrelevant anyway. I'd say the same for the out of form players he has taken. If Tuchel can't get the best out of players of that quality in his environment, with his tactical set up, he shouldn't be England manager.

This SA v Canada has been so shite. Like watching MLS or women’s football. The goal was a decent strike but again, keeper positioning was so bad it made the strike look amazing as there was so much of the goal to aim at.

It’s just a shame that one of these two had to go through.

Why are you putting yourself through this 😕

It was really bad; never seen 2 professional teams give the ball away so regularly

As an outsider looking in (I've never attended a full international) I get the impression it has been improving over the last few decades, but the stigma is not being removed at the same pace as the minority bad behaviour is becoming even more peripheral. That's a shame. The media of course revels in it : the more headlines the better.

I have some experience of being in the Netherlands and Ireland during international tournaments they've qualified for. These teams fans tend to smash their own cities up whereas England fans got a bit of a rep for the opposite: smashing up foreign cities. In the Netherlands the big teams fans regularly smash up the cities which has created a hostility towards football amongst a lot of people, that doesn't really carry itself to foreign attitudes towards them. The International fans are the same; especially when they lose. Get off the street and out of the bars after FT is the best approach.
