easyJet holidays have a few Dusseldorf hotel options in city centre flying from Gatwick, 31/7-3/8 c£600 ish 2 people with decent flight times.

Looking at Airbnb and hotels in Bochum with aim of staying Wed - Sun. Can pop into one of the bigger cities by train whilst there.

Eurostar to Brussels is our plan I think.

Always like the idea of these. But am away in good old Kent that weekend anyway. Wife's going to a Belle & Sebastian gig while I look after the kids in a caravan.

This will give me something "worthwhile" to watch that night though.

If everyone attending sends me a DM with a photo, I'll look out for for you. Please also send money: Link in bio.

Well done SUFC for announcing this so early and for getting a decent ticket allocation. Three of us planning to drive there as it's only about 260 miles to Bochum from Calais.
BB are you sure about this post? You must be aware United leave everything regarding away travel to the last minute just to spite supporters. Happens every year or so I understand from the learned on here.

As someone who does this route a lot (im travelling through Bochum as I type!) its a very easy journey to make.

Eurowings flights from Manchester to Dusseldorf can be a bit on the expensive side. And also despite the "German Efficiency" soundbite the trains here are the most unreliable Ive seen.

But as long as you give yourself a bit of time to absorb any delays/cancellations its a really easy trip.

I also wouldn't stay in Bochum. Dusseldorf will be much better.

Dortmund for us from Thu - Mon, booked through Expedia £625 in total for two of us, staying at Mercure so not bad really

My mate who lives in Germany tells me that the Bochum stadium is nestled between a prison and a theatre purpose-built to show Starlight Express, which is hilarious.

Contrast the two from a preparation and marketing perspective.

Both clubs have USA owners. Both will be competing in the Championship next season. The similarity stops there.

One club with infrastructure employing professional marketing. One employing the Dog and Duck equivalent.

One club playing against EPL quality in Man U liverpool Leeds and Sunderland with trip to Poland and USA Tour. One club with game in Germany against Bundesliga 2 opposition and a make do trip across Yorkshire against lower league teams.

We are light years behind Wrexham off the field. On it they are likely to be well in front of us before we even kick a ball.

What would I have liked to see.

Why cant SUFC also go on a tour of the USA? Do our owners have any sporting connections over there at all? Wouldnt this be a perfect marketing opportunity straight after the World Cup?

Why hasnt a memorial game for George Baldock been arranged against Panathinaikos. Better still a tournament for all the teams he represented Oxford MK Dons etc. with an annual cup.

There seems to be little imagination or desire to promote the Club and secure additional revenue opportunities.

Having just read the Fans Advisory Board statement on pre season it reflects the current parochial approach.

His supporters will be happy with the piss up days out though so who are we to complain?

People are going to have a drink regardless of whether we're playing Getafe or Halifax.

From a supporters' point of view it would be good to visit some more exotic places but pre-season is more about team bonding than testing ourselves against top clubs. Even if we were playing Barcelona, it would tell us very little. Players wouldn't fully commit to tackles and we'd use about 15 subs.

Disappointed they didn't manage to arrange a public game in Spain though.

I get your point but at the same time I'm not sure that getting pasted by premier league teams all pre season would help us much. Would be nice to have had a couple more challenging games at the end though.

Poland to Finland, then to the States for 3 games in 3 different states.

Good luck to the lads! Sounds lovely from a marketing POV but wouldn't be surprised if half their team ended up crocked before the season starts.

Good for them. They're Hollywood FC and we're Sheff United. There won't be another championship club doing a tour like that unless Birmingham have ideas above their station
