Ridiculous comment. The ideal pre-season starts with low level friendlies (the likes of Matlock, Baslow) and gradually works up the levels as the players reach the start of the season. You don’t tend to play pre-season games against teams in the same division.
There’s little point, unless there is a training camp, in going any further than you need to and spending hours on a coach when you can go up the road.
It’s better to be playing league one and two clubs, who play a similar style and intensity of football, than foreign or Scottish teams.
I would expect (and how I would plan it given free choice) to be something along the lines of Matlock, Alfreton, Halifax, Rotherham, Doncaster, Huddersfield. With maybe a foreign friendly in there somewhere if they go for warm weather training.
It’s all designed around being at peak match fitness when the first game of the season comes around.
