What is your opinion of our squad after our summer transfer activity thus far?

Fucking hell, I thought you were better than that.
Ok, but what if he did?

Either way, it was open news that Hull and others were after Maguire and we had a price . We'd never said " he's not for sale", Revealing that Maguire was trying to force our hand would have been a poorer revelation.

I couldn't get too wound up about the nuances about how that was spun along the way.

What if that's what Harry told him? Surely then that's not quite spouting bollocks?

I think what made it worse was when Harry came out to warm up when there was obviously nothing to the eye wrong with him.As joeydee said on another thread, store it in the Beattie flu crap and move on.

I would rather they be honest with us sometimes. Harry's not played tonight because he has expressed a desire to leave and its likely he will be sold in the coming days............but we always seem to lie and look fools, I don't think fans would have been upset by that we all knew he was destined to leave.

I think the first xi is weaker, the squad is clearly stronger. It's pretty much impossible to tell at this stage. Nobody knows how any of the new guys will fit in, nobody knows how much the departures will be missed and nobody knows if the likes of Murphy, Scougall and Flynn will do anything like as well as late on last season. Basically, nobody has a scooby and we're all just guessing.

My own guess is somewhere in the top half until about November then hopefully have some kind of settled side by then and push for the play offs. Totally impartial i'd say about 5th-9th is the likely end result. Can't see us challenging Preston or Bristol City for the title, though until games are played it is just guessing. Preston have mostly the same team, may kick on or may be a 1 season wonder. Bristol City have changed a few players so like us it's hard to say how they bed in. The teams coming down are very hard to judge, no obvious challengers there but everybody thought the same when Donny came down the other year. Chesterfield and Scunthorpe could carry a bit of momentum but don't look quite good enough to challenge.

Last season after 1 game we were going to win the league, the performances are more important than the results. People say "oh we didn't play well, but got the 3 points. sign of a good team"...yeah, maybe...or maybe sign of a team that is shite! As ever, the away performances are more of an indicator. You can't get very far if every away game you're getting battered and are trying to scrape a 1-0 win. Sooner or later, your luck runs out. The good teams go away and attack. Doesn't matter if it's dominating or just counter attacking, as long as it has a cutting edge. That's where we will find out if this team is any good or not. It feels a shame that we have so many new faces, i think most of us would prefer we hadn't signed anybody except Brayford, Coady and a striker than the wholesale changes.

I'll take honesty all day long. This way, the club would have looked alot more professional and come out of the whole issue with flying colours.Never mind.

I do have to say, as of today, I feel that we have both a stronger team and certainly a stronger squad. Today's acquisition has tipped the balance for me.

Loved Brayford, defending or going forward and it seems the Cardiff boss does too. However, we needed a striker, first and foremost.

Any future additions, would be Cherry on the Cake.

I do feel we will take 10 games or so to really gel so we need to be patient. Not that I expect a repeat of last year's start, but a little inconsistency is likely.

Back to this question. I still don't see how we have a stronger squad when we can't put a strong first eleven out.

For all the stick they get, Doyle and Collins would be straight back in for me. The defence and midfield were both just disorganised messes.

After watching today, I think "mediocrity in depth" is a more apt description than "strength in depth".

Don't rate Doyle or Collins so very disappointed to think that either of them could improve the team. Obviously I wasn't there today, and trying not to overreact, but that sounded terrible. D'eja vu all over again, as they say, some are wetting themselves because we've signed lots of players, some are pissed off because they think the signings are poor. Time will tell but you hit the nail on the head Latts, how can we have a stronger squad but a weaker first team, it just doesn't add up.

They were just running though the centre of our team pretty much unopposed. I don't remember too many sides doing that last season with Collins and Doyle in there. They say don't change a winning formula. Last season's winning formula had both of the aforementioned players in.

I know it's only one game, but I'm not sure what Basham's job was supposed to be today. He was often caught too far up the pitch, leaving gaping holes behind him with Reid having to try to stop two or three players. At the same time, though, he was nowhere to be seen when we were on the attack. A very poor debut.
