Of course he's not done bad for himself, he's a rich footballer! The point being he could have done better. He is blessed with extraordinary talent. He has not pushed himself to reach the level that talent might have attained.
Not many people in the world have done better than him- I'm not sure how we could evidence he's underachieved. He's slightly stocky (not fat) compared to many of the Prem stars. He can't grow taller and faster, etc.

He plays with a glorious creative freedom that most can't.

I've just given evidence of how i think he could improve. To clarify- lose weight, get fitter, work on stamina, study the game and tactics. Learn when to use the creative freedom at the right times and not repeatedly give the ball away. Do not kick opponents because you can't be bothered to chase them.

Fair enough, I am being blunt because it's so hot.

Think it's possibly unfair to suggest he can lose weight and get fitter mind you.

Overall he probably wouldn't be as good if he changed his game much. People don't usually ask creative genius types to stop being creative geniuses.

Edit: Could definitely get less yellows!

Do you think it would be impossible for a 28 year old man to lose weight and get fitter?
There's only so fit anyone can get.

I certainly couldn't dream of ever being as fit as Hamer. I'm naturally more slender than him, but I'd have had zero hope. I think it's over used criticism of him because he's a stockier Rooney type. I nearly said Jose Baxter type but that's definitely a bad example.

Purely playing devils advocate here but it depends how his fitness is being managed by the club. If it’s decided he’s in the ‘red’ zone and at risk of injuries they’ll scale back his training.

I’d love to know what sports scientists/dieticians the club employs.

Don't get the fitness criticism. He's one of a few (Hamer, Peck, Tanganga, O'Hare) that seems capable of getting through 90 minutes and despite his stockier build he's pretty quick and never stops running.

Potentially but he does tend to have issues with his calves at times beyond 70 minutes.
