We have seen "Police" horses at Bramall Lane, it was quite common before BDTBL became a 4 sided stadium in 1975 that a stray dog would invade the pitch and the ref would halt the football match before the dog would be captured and moved away from the ground. Dont think I have seen a stray cat invading the pitch at Bramall Lane. There was a camel that was paraded around the pitch before we played Norwich in April 1971. I was at the match but I dont remember seeing the camel. Maybe my dad and I arrived in the ground just before the kick off or just after the kick off (my dad often insisted on watching the races on TV before we head for Bramall Lane). Can you think of any other animals that has appeared at the ground when there was a match on?

I’ve seen quite a few donkeys on the pitch over the years…

Hecky's famous pigeon patrol!

I remember a dog invading the pitch in the 80s and evaded attempts to catch him, much to the amusement of the crowd who started chanting "Sign him up!"
I remember a Boxer dog attacking the ball during the Coventry v Blades match in March 1975, it brought loud cheers from the crowd. When a policeman eventually captured the dog and the crowd booed loudly at the policeman as he carried the dog off the pitch.

Camel, Badger and Salmons all in one match!

I have fond memories of 70's football when dogs got on the pitch. IIRC a relatively high percentage of Jack Russells too.
Bring 'em back, with invalid carriages in the corner, an occasional marching band at HT and both teams being read out just before the start of play!
