I remember Jones and Birchenall (Blond Bombers) both shoulder barging an oppo goalkeeper (with ball in hand) into the net at the Kop end and turning away to celebrate a goal.............shortlived excitement Ref blew for a foul :D

More than one and different versions back then IIRC. Full version as per Molly Malone or just the MI, MIC, MICK, MICK JONES stand alone. The Hodgy/Lev Yashin different chant altogether.
Sorry probably shouldn't have tagged it to your post sang the Hodgy \ Yashin chant myself

Not been in for 20 years. I left South Anston at 18 to go to Uni and only went in when I was back in the holidays.

My parents (both since passed away) moved away to Worksop not long after I left, so I've no real links with the village other than few mates parents.

My mum and dad still live there.

The last couple of times I've been in the Trooper, have been upstairs for a funeral and a 60th. It's still a good pub though.

This thread would suggest that there are a decent handful of Blades there, and I still know a couple.

More than a handful coco, great pub.

A bloke just in front of me got hit on the head by a glass whisky bottle thrown on the kop from the City fans. It was a dangerous time.
His head was bleeding badly.
violent day on the kop that was city fans were above us and we learnt a lot that day and blades fans moved to the top of the shoreham for the derby sept 2nd 67 another very violent day on the shoreham wednesday won the game but came 2nd and unstuck on that day on the shoreham

broke my heart when we sold mick jones he was my hero at the lane can remember us singing the song another poster has mentioned a teenage opera on wednesdays kop in a 3 -2 testimonial defeat days after he was sold don revie wanted birchenall as well but dick wragg wouldnt sell but then sold him to chelsea in november

He had a sports shop in Maltby after he retired. Late 80s/early 90s. I remember him dislocating his shoulder (I think) in a Leeds game and continue playing with his arm in a sling - they were hard in those days ;)
EdIt: Remembered it was a cup final and he went up to collect a medal with his arm in a sling not sure he played with it in a sling!
I remember that although he got subbed off! What a player though but as usual in those days we sold him to the dirties!

Dislocated his elbow in the very last minute of the 1972 FA Cup final. He was still lying on the pitch in agony. The team had received their winners medals without Mick who was still having treatment by Les Cocker. A teammate got his medal on behalf of Mick. Mick wanted to meet the Queen so Norman Hunter took him up the steps to meet the Queen.

If I remember correctly it was Princess Anne who presented the medals

Mate of mine just told me leeds are giving our mick a lifetime achievement award,at half time on saturday anyone stilll remember him?
Never here of us doing things like that
There was no award ceremony at half time today.
Perhaps it might be another day.

I don't think Leeds ever got the best out of Mick Jones they didn't have a player who could cross a ball like Alan Woodward. Mick Jones had the ability to seem to hang in the air before heading the ball in the net. Selling him and Birchenhall was as bad as selling Deane and Fjortoft we never learn.

You say that but whilst at Leeds he never matched the 21 goals in a season that he scored for us in 65-66 or bettered the 15 he scored in 66-67.

The Squire of Shireoaks, near Worksop, taking over from my all time hero Doc Pace. As mentioned previously, superb in the air with the ability to seemingly hang in the air, yet still get power in his headers. Can vividly remember him scoring a similar header when we beat Man U 2 - 1 at the Lane at Boxing Day (IIRC). His cohort Alan Birchenall (Sherman) scored the other, also a header. David Herd for Man U? Only 5ft 10/11, but rarely many six footers back then.

Remember getting the news at school that he'd been sold to Leeds for £100k, absolutely gutted. Followed shortly with Sherman going to Chelsea for the same amount. Learnt then that we would always be a selling club and under achievers. But have stuck with them regardless and a season ticket from '68 onwards.

I was also at that match, and remember Mick’s headed goal at the Kop. I was on the BL lower tier and as I jumped up to celebrate my head hit the underside of this Man U fans chin and he bit his tongue, there was blood everywhere. I’m reight hard me.

Yes i could agree on that ,but he had plenty of goal attempts that clame off the keeper and clarke tapped in ,these days theyd go down as "assists"
Prob why he got called sniffer, he also crodsed the ball for clarkes diving header in 72 cup final, great player, but footy was different back then, and better than the new generation swan divers
