They're premier league, we're league 1 and he is too good for our standard, so I suppose it isn't exactly a shock.

What is a surprise to me is the price tag we seem to have given him. I can't believe we'd be seemingly happy with circa £2m. Anyone else think he's worth much more than that considering today's climate? I'd have though Maguire was worth £4-5m of anyone's money considering his age and experience.

I can see why, and the lure of the money and chance to possibly appear in the PL, however he's still only young and think he's been influenced too much by an agent, selling the dream and lining his own pockets

Me too.
"Blades in under-valuation shocker!!!"
Everyone knows we'll take anything and that's why we never get any decent offers. I'd love us to turn round one day and say "double it or fuck off"

He leaves with my best wishes. If reports are to be believed then we're talking £2.5million + add-ons + sell-on clause for a centre back from League 1. You can't say fairer than that really. With McGahey, Collins, Butler, Kennedy and Alcock being able to play there and do a decent job, we're getting a lot of money for a player we don't badly need to replace. I would've liked to have seen him stay and progress with us, but we are where we are and Hull are mixing it with the big boys at the moment. The lure was too great.

Best of luck, Hazza.

Why didn't you just put this in the maguire thread.
Classic reaction from a certain portion of our support. Ignore that he has come through our academy, made over 200 appearances for us, we saw him grow as a player over a number of seasons, had Benteke in his pocket at Villa Park, and last year showed development in positional play, bringing the ball forward and increased athletecism - he's never going to be the quickest, but he's a fitter, more athletic player than he was 2 years ago.

Nope, forget all that, he's dared to have had his valuation apparently met by a premiership team, so cheerio 'leadboots'.

Wtf has this got to do with what i have put,oh and by the way i will get you some sanitary towels or tampax whichever you prefer.

that would be far too simple.
Oh I have done something really bad; like shoot an airliner with 300 people on board out of the sky or invaded a foreign country murdering inocent people or even, and this is REALLY bad, started supporting Sheffield Wednesday????

Sorry I was agreeing with you, the post was really about the the 'leadboots' reference

Have we decided this is "good business" yet?
If it's £2m + addons to £3.5m I think it is, just a shame if he moves and then sits on a bench. I think he needs a season at Championship level before he's ready for the Prem.

I think I will reserve judgment on whether it's good business when I see who we have in defence next season.

Somehow I doubt it will be as good as the defence we put out last year post-January.

If only.... then you would be on owlstalk..... rather than here!

I personally don't think it is, but only time will tell, if we decide to spend any of the money on players and not pitches or anything to do with the ground, then and only then might it be considered any sought of good buisness.

How long before someone mentions "old leadboots" is a pig fan :D
Typical Piggy wanting more money, never rated him anyway ;)

In all seriousness good luck to him, served us well. The only thing that will stop us moaning about it is signing Brayford ASAP.

I think we'd just rather not have multiple threads about the same subject, you know like on BM.

I think it's a genuine valuation and reasonable price tag.

Fair? No, not when you consider some of the stupid money that gets thrown around.

Good business? It depends what the club does with the money.
