21st Jan and we've only signed some back up right back, Hoever that is.

Anyone else a bit disappointed we've been so slow out of the stalls this January? Surely if we were going to try and "make a go of it" we'd have seen much more transfer activity by now? Even if its just the loan market

Yet again I find myself wishing the winter transfer winow was in December instead. By the end of January it's usually too little, too late.

The squad is too big.

That makes additions a bit of an issue if you see a major problem as the amount of players turning up for training each day.

Ideally you’d like to send out:
Faxon
Sachdev
Polendakov
Hampson
Zatterstrom
Matos
Nwachukwu
Ukaki
Oné

Obviously well hold Matos until we see who we get in the window, but the above volume seems to be part of the problem.

I dare say I’d not for the 3 win rule we wouldn’t be holding onto McGuinness, Chong or Ogbene either.

Squad is too big that we need to sell or offload before making any additions.

Plus the season is basically over for us now with very low chances of either making the playoffs or troubling the bottom 3 it's probably been decided to not bother wasting resources during this window.

Sheffield football for this season basically consists of one game over 4 months....for both teams the season was DOA.

Yes, before our little spurt of form at the back end of November, this JTW was largely seen as being one of the most important windows in a long time. I genuinely thought we were gonna come out the traps and make the signings we need, soon after the strains of Auld lang Syne had ceased. January has a lot of games in it and is notorious for ending many a promotion push…
Ok, so we’re not looking over our shoulder like we were and I guess we should be grateful that we’ve moved away from the bottom and found a bit of form. But the momentum we’d built up before Christmas seemed to have dissipated slightly. So maybe we’ve already decided the task of trying to gate crash the play-offs is a step too far, so in view of that splurging money in Jan would be fruitless task.

Spending money now to secure a player for the future is good business, but if just a loan then I am not sure.
Ask again at 5 pm on Saturday !

Well, we are alive and kicking now.
When we're not being put on ice one week, being told to go and sit on the dressing room the next, then move to the stands because we're banned and the medical room because we're injured, and there's a week left to strengthen the squad for a proposed play off push

Awful time to be watching. I was enjoying 2ppg and regular 3 united goals.
Thanks, I'll re-asses my enjoyment to gloom instead.

I'm surprised we've not had as much activity with outgoings, Wilder has alluded in many interviews that the squad is way to big and we need to offload those that aren't getting minutes.

The issue is anyone wanting them, in the list you've put it's hard to see where the majority would go.

You get a like for 'Hoever that is'

January is usually too little too late because teams only bother to get stuff done in the last couple of days, by which time there are only about 17 league games left

It should open mid December at latest

As for United now, our season looks over, thanks to undersoil heating and 2 morons and a wanker at Charlton. So I now question whether we should be doing much at all. Any expensive short term loans should probably be forgotten about. Ideally any loans are ones to be made permanent

The squad is too big, but who is going to take the players we don't want/need?
At this point I think spending more on loans would be pointless. But if we can get a couple of permanent signings that improve the team with an eye on next season, we should. I think Dan Neil would be a good addition and might allow us to sell Peck in the summer to fill the hole in the budget.

At a quick count on the BBC transfer page Champtionship clubs have made a total of 34 signings ,so less than 2 per club. We aren't that far off the average.

No it isn’t, signing players in January unless you desperately need to fix something or replace someone is the worst time to sign new players.

Transfer fees are always inflated in January for various reasons.

are we really away from the bottom scrap ? our next three could see us flirting with the bottom three considering injuries suspension and the dire replacements I will remain a glass half empty

We never buy early people should realise this now its always the last week the last minute. Been like it for years but outgoings I am a little surprised as you.

At a guess a lot of fans will be thinking the same, we are always slow to recruit and have been for years. Expect a couple of panic loan signings on 30th Jan, anything else will be a bonus.

If the player is what we need for the future then signing him makes sense, albeit with an eye to cost.
In reality such players are rare in the JTW, but to simply rule them out because it’s mid season here( but not everywhere) is not a good business choice.

Wasn't it Hall saying the best part of 2 weeks ago that we had made a load of progress on a number of signings? Bang on the money again...

They are just waiting for the wee Bazza deal from the pigs to get sorted.........
Hate to say it but I would have him in our team. He can pick a pass for certain. Tin hat on.
