As per chat box conversation - the Oxford postponement & that mad 10 mins at Charlton have completely floored us in January. If we’d won both those we’d have only been 5 pts outside the play offs. So unfortunately I think any significant investment by COH for a play off push are finished. More likely now looking at the budgeting & how we bridge the lack of parachute gaps in the summer.

Fair to say (for different reasons) the sooner we can forget our summer 2025 & winter 2026 transfer windows - the better. Time to dust ourselves down & hit the ground running with a slimmer hunger squad for 26/27 season.

I think Hamer is more a Summer outgoing than this Jan, but it's a shame - he's a joy to watch on his day.

Having Vini back would be a dream.

There was also that FLW article about a trio of Cardiff players, not that a put a lot of faith in that as a source

yes more than likely but the more i think about that comment the more i think it could be souza maybe loan with view to buy in the summer with hamer going out and just maybe thats why nothing has happened with rothwell and neil they could be our 2nd and 3rd choices

Souza went for over £10m. There's absolutely no way we're shopping in that market anymore.
If he leaves, my guess is it'll be back to Brazil.

The reality is, this Summer will now be about plugging the hole in our finances.

That means selling Sydie Peck & Gus Hamer as a minimum and thereafter any purchases will probably be on a '£1 in: £1 out' type basis.
Wilder usually juggles that market quite well (at least, better than when he has a bigger budget).

I think that’s what awaits us in the not too distant future however part of me is starting to think that COH may decide to eat the losses / load it on to the club for one last go next season.

They may have reflected on just how close we came last season, seen the upturn this season and gamble next.

The two things that have made me think that is a slight possibility are:

1 wilder has said on a couple of occasions that the owners have been very supportive of his January plans. We’ll know more in the next week or so on this I guess

2 wilder also said that there had been a conversation about a new contract for Gus. Didn’t know the outcome but they were opening it up to see what his appetite for an extension was.

Those two things don’t scream immediate fire sale, I think we lose Peck in the summer regardless but the rest, we’ll see. Makes me a little nervous thinking they could gamble and I hope they do it responsibly if they do.

fair point but theres no way wolfsburg will get 10m for him if they sell more likely to be around 6/7m which is what were likely to get for hamer so im not so sure maybe our owners will have one more major go at getting in to the premier league so who knows but still think this summer is where we will make our biggest moves this season has almost gone

Next season will be a lot lot tougher - likely up against West Hsm, Burnley &Wolves…..

thats not a bad shout hamer out souza in wage for wage
No chance he would come back here (woould he even want to) on a full transfer, wages for a start we arent committing that sort of money long term. If Reidewald is fit we dont need him would rather spend the money we do have on a CB or Keeper cover

will have to be barkeley rothwell or neil then agree we need a keeper and centre back but we also need a midfielder and personally wouldnt mind another striker coming in campbell and ings are almost done at this level and cannon still flatters to deceive just a case if it happens this month or in the summer

Originally I thought it would be a successful January if it was; a RB, CDM & Winger/ Bamford extension. But also ending certain loans.

We've ended two, Barry & Godfrey. Hoever ticks the RB loan and I've liked the links to certain midfielders & Bamford did extend - ideal.

Now with the suspensions, CB becomes an issue. Can't have another McGuiness and Mee pairing. So it feels more than 3 bodies are now necessary - that's more like 5 with further loans ended/ younger players sent out.

But, it's Sheffield United we are talking about, we're never efficient as great as it would be.

All boils back to the summer and trying to right the wrongs, alongside attempting to keep our heads above water both in the league and with the bank balance at the same time.

I make it 17 signings since August.

Of all of them, Wilder has signed three of them and without Bamford and Riedewald, we'd be truly screwed.

Tanganga has been largely decent until his brain fart at the weekend, Mee has been OK and Bindon has started to emerge but really, we want loan players who can make an impact like most of last years did and he hasn't done. McGuinness, Chong, Ings, Matos, Ogbene, Soumare and the AI signings could all vanish tomorrow and we'd be no worse off.

The contracts that have been handed out to the players we signed in the summer has beggared belief.

Soumare I would keep as I think he has real potential for a young lad with little to no experience at a decent level.

The rest are very average to poor

The only one with a glimmer of hope imo is McGuiness who I think could be coached into a decent CB maybe in the way that CW & AK transformed Bash from an average midfielder into a real quality player.

Cant see how McGuinness gets coached into being a good player (or top end champ starter). Hes 25? And still has poor positional sense, slow to read the game, slow to react and overall just slow in movement, hes not athletic enough to be bale to recover from poor moments like Anel was able to.

He needs to start being more aggressive in his all round play, in the air & on the floor in the tackle, know his limitations be a real no nonsense defender - hes currently too soft for his size, this will contribute to him having better performances.

like your optimism with mcguinness and hope your right but i cant see it happening hes a league 1 centre back not somebody you would want to rely on in a promotion push next season
