Have recently set up a new X/Twitter account to showcase some historic players, key games and other facts about Blades and Bramall Lane.

Appreciate this isn’t for everyone but if you like a fact feel free to give BladesArchives a follow on X/Twitter 👍

Wanted another side project after trying to track down all Sheffield United Goalkeepers since 1889! 🤣

Cross post to BlueSky as well and I'll follow :)

Latest throwback is 1967… Wasn’t my era but having done some digging into this it feels like the 60s version of selling Deane & Fjørtoft although granted Jones & Birchenall weren’t sold on the same day!

don revie wanted to sign both of them but dick wragg refused saying it would upset united fans too much then promptly sold birchenhall to chelsea 2 months later those 2 decisions cost is our division 1 place

19 years have flown by for this one…

Would have been nice to see Quinny on the pitch for Mansfield last week but believe he left them at the end of last season.

33 years ago today… ⬇️

Arsenal went on to win both cups in the 1992/1993 season and finish 10th in the Premier League with 56 points. Blades finished in 14th place on 52 points.

I was there. Went back to University that morning after the Christmas hols, dumped my stuff and trained straight down to London. Arsenal had the mural at the Clock End.

It was a good point although we were still in trouble at that point. I well remember singing "And now you're gonna believe us, we're gonna win the league" after Littlejohn scored. The Arsenal fans were bemused, but then they have never had any sense of humour.

Was that when Arsenal were redeveloping the Clock End? Guess that's why there were only 23k there. They had that very odd painted crowd on a board behind the goal.

Just to be a pedant, the mural was at the North Bank end 🙂
