Look its not hard to see why people don't like him, he's been a average player for United, he's been involved in 3 failed promotion seasons, he is employed to get us the goals and he has come up short every season.
Praise is to be earned, look at Flynn and Murphy they turned their performances around and they are getting praises, Porter as improved over the new year and has gained some praise but some just can't forgive from past errors.

Great statement, we "Don't like" one of our own players. Think that says more about some fans than anything else.

Thankfully the bloke that counts sees some value in him.

Not rating someone with some foundation (King and his one goal for us as well as him being a full weight ball bag for example) is very different to the absolute pelters that the same people always come on and give Porter. The bloke has done little to nothing wrong apart from not scored 20+ goals a season. Is he limited? Yes, but you would think we were in for Messi and Ronaldo the way some wank on. Players like Porter are where we are. When we progress he will not be with us.

Its the sheer inability of some people to look beyond their own personal "I said he was shit and I am sticking to it" that makes me wonder what people see. I see a bloke who scores a few goals, makes space for others and is an honest, team player, fits in to where we are (League One) and would be surplus to requirements if we could get 3-4 better players. We aren't in that position and for some people to come out with half arsed expertise (he only scores 1 in 4, look at his record, or Chesterfield and Shrewsbury fans didn't rate him) makes them look ridiculous.

For once we have a manager who sees the bigger picture thank god. We offered Porter a reduced contract and were prepared to lose him if he didn't accept. That tells me Clough doesn't see him as first choice.

Everyone of course forgets in their fog of hatred for the bloke that he was part of the squad that took us from relegation to 7th inside 6 months and an FA Cup semi final. The important part of that sentence is squad. Chris Porter didn't do it alone but working on the whole being greater than the sum of the parts he was an integral part of that squad.

In our mad dash for change many people seem to forget that Clough got a side together that would have pissed the top 6 based on latter season form. Almost all of those players are still there. Surely, rather than binning people off for the sake of change the sensible thing is to keep what we have and add to it.

Its Cloughs arse that's on the line here not ours. He makes the decisions and he has made them well. Why the fuck would we, as armchair fans take the blokes track record last season and disrespect it by saying his player selection is crap?

I think if Baxter's performance remains the same for 2 more years, there'll be a lot of questions asked there too, unless we've completely outlawed the questioning of anything by that time....

All very true pinch, and I'm very positive about Clough and the club right now. But my thoughts on Porter are documented ( and to my knowledge never name calling or donkey referenced), I just don't rate him. He's taken up a place in what were told will be a small squad that's currently bereft of goals. Am I not entitled to my opinion because trust in the manager should surpass all thought processes?

I don't hate porter,i just don't think he's good enough to get us out of this league as proved in other seasons,not as a first striker or a fourth striker,simple as that.Thats not to say i won't support him though, as its not his fault he plays so many times for so many managers.Now who does that remind you of.
