Just read blackpool fans thoughts on this. All seem happy he is due to leave, one offering to drive him here.

Weren't they the same with Bob Harris? McMahon for Harris was an awesome deal.

Basham cost £1m, he must have something.. In Clough we trust

To be fair on the whole they seem to want him to stay even if only as a squad player. As for what his game is about this quote stood out "He's great at running around, closing people down, getting tackles in. He's XXXXXX useless at actually passing the football to a man wearing tangerine - unless that man has left early and is making his way down"

The new Monty?

I'll start with well done Nigel Clough.

He is going about his transfer business the right way IMO, he is prioritizing in building a SQUAD over big money marquee signings, for me they come last. which is exactly what we need this season in what is a 46 game season ... potentially more if we have another cup run, he also seems to be focusing on bringing in players who can play numerous positions (Basham, JCR) which over the period of this season should mean we will not have to rely on the loan market that years gone by. That's what we've been wanting right?

The players brought in (or about to be) on paper are better than the one they're replacing too so the quality of the squad has improved already and we're barely into the summer window. Butler > Hill for one

As for Basham i know little about him admittedly but i'll be avoiding whatever Blackpool fans have to say about him and just wait to see his performances in a Red & White shirt.

Would leave me a bit flat to be honest. All signings are more stocking fillers and nobody to improve the 1st eleven.

In clough we trust though, yeh
yeh

[CONFIRMED] signs on July 1st. 3 year contract.

Agree and also we should not lose sight of the fact that we are League 1. Basham cost Blackpool £1m and played half their games in the Premiership as well as 83 games in the Championship. Plenty good enough for us and surely an improvement on McGinty, Johns, Williams, McMahon and Westlake who have all left since Clough arrived. As for Hill, I thought he was a good defender and would have kept him for "character" as well.

I'd rather be signing players from the division above us than below although it's another I wouldn't describe as game changing. UTB!

Hopefully! I'd like to think this wont be the only centre midfielder we bring in though, would like to see some goals come from the middle of the park next season (like we had with brown). I don't think Doyle or Basham will bring that if they play together, fully agree with the Harris switch though great bit of business......... has Harris extended his deal yet?

I remember being underwhelmed when bob 'bomber' Harris signed but he turned out to be a shrewd signing. I completely trust clough and expect more of the same

Don't Murphy, Baxter, Scougall Flynn and maybe even Coady ( or his replacement) provide goals from midfield? Isn't midfield about a blend of skills and roles?

All of the above do but the goals I feel would help our promotion push are from the middle of the park. Coady was starting to provide more and more goals from midfield but has gone now. Murphy and Flynn are wingers, Scougall and Baxter are attacking midfielders. Last season we looked at our worst when Doyle and McGinn played together (to similar) and our best when Coady and Doyle played together because they complimented each others game.

In clough we trust, I'm sure he is aware of this and has something up his sleeve maybe McGinn's brother could be the cheaper alternative to Coady?

Laddo over on BM said at the weekend we were signing a player with the initials CB this week. Wouldn't name names because of his source

He now says we are holding talks with two players tomorrow, one a striker

Basham played right back for Bolton so given our lack of right backs he might find himself playing there for us.

I thought he was a fullback when first mentioned.

Chris Basham is a versatile young player who joined Blackpool in the summer of 2011. Chris is full of energy, and can play at right back, centre back and in centre midfield. He made his debut for the Seasiders when he came on as a substitute in the opening game of the 2010-11 season against Wigan and also featured in the line-up for the Carling Cup tie with MK Dons. However, his only other first-team appearance came against Villa in November and shortly afterwards he was sidelined after suffering a broken leg playing in a reserve game. Chris began his career with Bolton Wanderers, but was only on the fringes of the senior team prior to his move to Bloomfield Road.

Who liked to give it a good bashin.............

Good signing!!
I dont care if we havent heard of him. Im done with high profile players who brought nothing extra to the table.

Oh i've heard of him, just don't know how good he is

Sound perfect, we don't want him passing the football to a man wearing tangerine.

Let's hope Nigel gets the best out of this lad...sounds like what we need and has experience of leagues above do here's hoping!

UTB!
