It would be interesting to go through the film of that incident with the ref and hear what his thinking was and what it was actually given for.The ref should be ashamed of that penalty decision.
Interview:
No Chris. That first goal is all on you. And it's all about the set up. Yes, Peck lost his man. But you had Peck marking Morris at corners. Brooks had Diaz and McGuiness has never cleared a header in that zonal attacking position. So that's very much on you.
And don't forget the corner is given away, duecto our usual fuckaboutery at our own goal kickNo Chris. That first goal is all on you. And it's all about the set up. Yes, Peck lost his man. Derby had some aerial threat with three big centre halves + Morris + Agyemang. For the goal Sanderson took out McGuinness. McCallum, Tanganga and Soumare were at the first post, but couldn't reach it. When Morris got away from Peck he was free to attack it.No Chris. That first goal is all on you. We play too much tippy tappy and have become weak at set pieces. PL clubs now realising that set pieces are more important than tippy tappy this season.Derby had some aerial threat with three big centre halves + Morris + Agyemang. So like at Preston we concede from a set piece, again after the opposition created a hole in our zonal marking setup, and again a big, strong player got the better of his smaller marker in the vital duel.

True, but teams are doing more and more stuff to make it more difficult for the defending team. Including blocks, players making runs and jumps, partly in attempt to cause confusion and disorganisation, rather than genuinly going for the ball.I presume Peck’s job is to prevent his man getting a free run at the ball rather than to beat him to it?
But if the corner is so precise it lands straight on the big man’s noggin, there’s no defending it.

It seems to me the 4th official would be better employed standing behind the goal for corners rather than on the halfway line. One pair of eyes isn't enough with the amount of pushing, pulling and blocking that goes on.True, but teams are doing more and more stuff to make it more difficult for the defending team. On this goal you can see Langås' run and jump probably affecting Soumare, Tanganga and his marker McCallum (red circle). When Sanderson succeeds in preventing McGuinness (blue circle) going for it as well, they've created a big gap in our defensive zonal set up, a big space where nobody is able to really attack the ball.

Of course we can't be certain that all the above were definitely parts of their plan, but they'll be delighted to have achieved the situation of a big and physical target man only having a smaller and less experienced marker to beat.
