Its an accident and Wilder went straight over and apologised, I also expect Chris and the club to follow it up and check on the gentlemen. To be fair, the chap who got hit is, I’d estimate, in his 70s. He didn’t see it coming and it smacked him full in the face while he was looking at his phone, sending his specs flying down the stand. He looked dazed for some minutes afterward.
There will be an overreaction to this, for sure. But “so what” is a pretty dodgy take in its own right.
It's not the worst thing anyone, including Wilder himself has done, not a huge deal and I agree that people will blow it up.To be fair, the chap who got hit is, I’d estimate, in his 70s. I just don't agree that this needs people attacking Chris, it wasn't a cardinal sin, he's made a mistake, and I think people should move on.
You mean chasing a game and switching LBs and RBs isn't cutting it??I dunno, might get substitutions right for the first time in a 1000 games

Really doesn't help though and he should know better
Assault?!
Agree. Though, these “stupid things in the heat of the moment” seem to happen again and again and again with Wilder. Pashun though.Stupid, yes.
But manager's etc do stupid things in the heat of the moment. It's happened before and it'll happen again.
But there's a lot of Wilder haters and/or Guardian readers on here just waiting to have a go.
Would you have said the same if you or one of your family got hit in the face with the ball though?Oh calm down ffs he kicked a ball in frustration so what
Agree but calling it assault is is also shameful and utterly unnecessary.Shameful and utterly ununnecessary.
Think you’d expect it during play, wouldn’t expect it after the whistles gone for half time.. from a managerEven the Wilder haters cant moan after just two games..
So they jump on this instead
If you complain about a ball hitting you at a football match...I dont know what to even tell you.
Pretty sure it'll be in the small print of buying a ticket: You may get hit with a ball and we'll accept no blame. He should.
Types of assault based on injury:
- Battery:
This involves the intentional or reckless application of unlawful force to another person. It's the actual physical contact, like a push or a slap, that results from the assault.
- Common Assault: No physical injury occurs.
- Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm (ABH): The assault results in a "hurt" or injury that is more than "trifling" or "transient". This could include minor cuts or bruises.
Basic lift from Wiki.
Hope that helps.
It isn't. It's all there - feel free to check it out.Agree but calling it assault is is also shameful and utterly unnecessary.

Got him sent off too, regardless of whether the ref was a prick or not
Some seem to think it’s ok.Mardy, petulant little man. Unable to exercise self control and attempts to dress it up as “pashun”. Time he grew up.
The game isn't in play at HT. Premeditation is irrelevant hereHe will have immediately regretted kicking it as soon as it left his foot. But it wasn't a premeditated crime. No reason he'd have wanted to endanger his own fans either.
Silly mistake.

Fair enough.I once copped for the exact same thing from a Blades player, I was only young and it knocked me flying. No part of me felt any animosity towards the player though, if that's what you're getting at? The player came over and apologised. I laughed it off and so did my Dad. I'd have thought that would be almost everyone's reaction, if it was accidental.

You have a ball in your office? I want to work thereSome seem to think it’s ok.
I’ll go into work and volley the ball at someone in the office.
I’ll let you know how I get on…
