Spot on. Even before their first goal we were being torn apart down that flank. Anyone with a functioning footballing brain cell could see Godfrey needed someone to back him up.

And what did Selles do? Nowt.

But Brooks hasn't just done that last night. He has been like that every time he has played, which is why he fell out of favour with Wilder. When Wilder said he needed to do more I don't think it was in training it was on the pitch.

Just before the first goal, Brooks and Barry had swapped sides and there were a few times when Brooks went a bit deeper and central, I'm assuming that was a deliberate plan to try to get him on the ball more as there's not normally much deviation from Selles' rigid tactics. As soon as they scored, Brooks was back on the right all the time, and Barry back on the left, each doing little either way.

Got a lot of quality in this squad who are seriously underperforming this season, especially the ones who are too good to be benched.

Be interesting to see how many improve under the next manager, as I think it's becoming obvious that as each game goes by, more of them look like they don't want to play for Selles anymore and are trying to get him out.

Like O.P said, it doesn't excuse the faults that lie at Selles' door, but there's no excuse for players to be putting in performances like that.

I’m not sure if it’s as simple as them ALL downing tools. For example Peck looked gutted every time we conceded.
I think they don’t believe in the way the manager is setting them up and once we go behind a few of them revert back to what they think is best. The result is disjointed and that’s why we look so dreadful.
Having said that a few clearly don’t look like they care about the badge yet.

I think they don’t understand what selle’s is trying to do and nor do the fans. And then don’t understand and don’t buy into it. But some of it I think is also hangover from play off final. It must be so hard to start a long hard championship season when you just finished the last one and failed at the last 15 mins. If wilder : same manager was there he may be a better motivator, also know what they’ve been through together. Selles just comes across as a coach trying out new ideas without recognising where team has come from. Yes they are / should be professional but I do wonder if there have been a few bust up with selles already and now players want him gone

It's often said good players don't become bad players over night. Well the lads are disproving that. But I do have a positive...not one team, or two teams, in this league looks like they are going to run away with the league. Thus promotion is not a write off yet. Last season Cooper, Burrows, Hamer, Peck to name 4 were all outstanding in the Championship. This season they have all been really poor. What has changed? The “system” adopted by Selles. Nobody seems to know what they are supposed to do. They are all playing “out of position”. It is not fair to blame the players for this debacle. There is only so much running around as headless chickens you can expect people to do.

I've seen teams before who are in a slump and low on confidence and the only way out of it is to graft

Didn't really see that yesterday but still the players are getting a free ride apart from.surprisingly peck who seemed to stick.his head above the parapet but isn't really good enough to drag the team with him.
Hamer showed some fire when he got that booking but I'm looking at the rest of the team and I'm not seeing the appetite for a scrap

I don't think we had any leaders last season which is why we bottled it in the league and then the play offs. Tanganga, Chong, Mcguinness, Godfrey and Mee are hugely experienced at this level. I don't think we can say it's because we're a young side when the club up the road are picking up points with a squad of kids.

We saw Souza and Anel melt the last time we had a team underperforming. I don't think they'd make a difference to this team with the way it's currently playing. Robinson is the only person who's left that could be considered a leader and most people wanted him out of the team.

I agree that we've got a lot of new players that need to gel but I don't think it explains just how bad we've been. There is enough experience and quality in that squad to be competitive at this level.

They get backed during games when fans can see that they are putting in the necessary effort and not hiding. They got backed yesterday. But as professionals they have to take some responsibility for making sure they are doing the bare minimum. Then, if they are simply not good enough or if the manager has got the selection and tactics wrong as happened yesterday they can’t be blamed. But we’ve all seen multiple players dialling it in this season. You learn the most about character not when things are going well but when they are up against it. We’ve learned loads since Christmas.
