Mate of mine knows him through his relative and says bids have been accepted from Roma & Leicester and it's now down to Diego.

Isn't he on a pro contract with us ? Surely that means the final decision is with us ?

Heard this before Rotherham game but didn't want to disseminate as it would be obvious where the rumour came from. Suppose cats out of the bag now anyway
I'm a very good friend of the family and can tell you now that no bids have been made or accepted by any club this is FACT and this has come from the top trust me diego will still be a sheffield united next season

Have you got a link? You know some people are quite funny about this rumours section.

Maybe somebody should point him in the direction of the last " star striker " to have his head turned by agents from our club ,
and tell him maybe the grass isn't always greener , if the story is in fact true , highly doubt it though .
I'll leave our manager to deal with this nonsense .

if he gets on to Juventus's payroll the grass is almost certainly greener......

Right, with by your calculations a large sum of money to help invest into something. Ask any kid his age if that would change their lives and they wouldn't have to think for long.

Ok, so he has £600K, lets say for the sake of argument he only spends half of that (which is a massive assumption for an 18 year old). So he has £300K to invest. If he is massively lucky he might get 4% on that = £12,000 a year.

I suppose he could live on that, but he would have a pretty frugal life.

£300k can start a business of his own. That much money for me would definitely be life changing. Anybody that couldn't use that much money to change their life must be pretty short of imagination.

I am not saying that he could not do a lot with the money, merely that he is not in the "sitting with his feet up and counting his money for the rest of his life" territory. That's all.

I heard recently that "£6M is the new £1M" in that that is how much you need to live off your money...

You can probably get a max of about 3% if you just stick the money in the bank - which on £6M would equal £90, 000 a year. You would, however lose not much short of 45% of that in tax, so you would get £50,000ish a year to live on, which seems doable.

If you paid your mortgage and debts off, many people would consider that life changing. :)

Fair enough. The other bloke must've been spouting shit then. I hope he was because this lad has clear potential.

A link to a blokes mouth?

I don't like it when people say we should sign someone because they're rated 78 on FIFA. What I said is a rumour and belongs in the rumour mill. Not the pipe dream mill

His other consideration may be to live in Milan as opposed to Chesterfield.
Tough choice - Hmmmmnn

Turin surely, not such an obvious choice insofar as it would take about two nanoseconds rather than a single one.

Where he will be lucky enough to learn and prosper under Nigel Clough, if he so chooses. That will start from a realisation that Nigel knows a great deal more about football than he does.

His friends and family might want to advise him accordingly.

You could move to Darlington and live like a king on that kind of money.

Dont think hed get taxed that much on income tax, prob end up with about £62K a year doing it that way but Im sure with the use of a creative accountant and a limited company you could get it down to almost tax free

Depends on how you want to live and how old you are.

I reckon that I could retire now with a windfall of about about £150k. but then I am 58 yrs old and planning to retire in less than 3yrs anyway

DM are reporting Leicester are to bid for Diego's services

"Leicester are also poised to bid for Sheffield United's teenage striker Diego de Girolamo. The 18-year-old is an Italy Under 19 international but was born in Chesterfield. "

Ah, the enigma that is Diego. At the moment his reputation far exceeds his achievements. It'd be nice to see why the teams that are (allegedly) interested in him rate him so highly.

So why not cash in? He's certainly got a reputation, which we seem unlikely to see. Slap a £2m price-tag & we've might do another 'Jacob Mellis' deal.

Oh and for further info.. He's meant to have fallen out with NC.

Apparently walking about in a baseball cap which NC told him to take off and he refused
