Sky Sports and BBC both reported a £10m fee. Leicester wouldn't have accepted a £4m fee, they bought him for £6m and his stock had risen since then.Source? or rumour.
Clue one internet post does not create a fact.
The only fact we have is from the club itself.
Just to flip this a bit, If we magically get gifted £10m to spend on a new striker, who are we buying, factoring in someone who wants to come.
Its a genuine question as I don't know enough about other players to add anything but Its all very well saying we wasted the money and to sack him off, but we needed someone in (If my memory is right, Moore had Hernia op and Campbell was struggling to get through 70 minutes). OK, hes been terrible, but club bought him in and now we have to support him, develop him, someone get some return on him, either financially or on the pitch (which I would say are linked).
They genuinely want us to lose so they can bang on about how different it would be if we’d not sacked Wilder. Strange behaviour. He was an excellent manager for us who will go down as one of our greatest ever managers. He made mistakes though. I'm not sure why people can't accept that when even he himself would
Other people just want to use it as a stick to beat the new board as if there isn't enough to use already
thank you for sharing, its interesting to see. I guess this is the challenge with buying in JTW. (just for comparison of Championship data, and I got bored so have only done a couple)Plenty of Championship clubs have signed better CF's for £10m or less this window (Kelman, Coburn, Kvistgaarden, Kone, Downs, Heggebo, etc.)
Maybe read the post…What are these strengths of his?

The only time I picked up ‘Wilder out’ vibes on this forum was after he started having a go at the fans. Before that people were supportive of him.Like last season it felt like some people wanted us to lose, so they could bang on about sacking wilder.
Just bizarre behaviour on both sides of it. Was hoping him leaving could at least let us move on, but neither side seem able to.
I'm smiling wryly at those bigging up Brum's owners.Presumably folks on this thread would have got rid of Basham and Coutts within two months after signing for the Blades
The BBC reported a £15.6m fee for Ahmedhodzic. Further back, every source online said we'd paid £10m for Lys Mousset (we didn't).Sky Sports and BBC both reported a £10m fee. Leicester wouldn't have accepted a £4m fee, they bought him for £6m and his stock had risen since then.
Unforunately for me, I did read your post.Maybe read the post…
Instead of the condescending answer, implying I'd not read your post, point me to where you list his strengths in the above?I get the frustrations with him and I thought he was massively overhyped before he even came here. It would be interesting to see how he performed if we actually played to his strengths and gave him some service.
My thoughts on him are that he’s a ‘finisher’ in the box, not someone who will run the channels etc and we haven’t really given him the service needed.
Early signs v Bristol were that we were going to get more balls into the box which would give him a fighting chance. Unfortunately for him he’s been a scapegoat for everything which is currently wrong.
Oh - I I think probably what we paid for him which is apparently around £4 mill not 10.

We might yet pay £10m for Cannon but it'll be dependent on him and us being far more successful than we have been thus far in his time at the club. If pushed, I'd guess we paid a guaranteed £6m, with £3m more on promotion and £1m in other variables. Leicester therefore got a PSR profit and a cash boost which they desperately needed.
Quotes at the time:
Wilder says Cannon is someone he's tracked for a while and is a signing which ticked all the boxes. He said: "It's a super signing for us. Somebody we have tracked for a long time and known about for a long time. He's a young hungry player, position specific, we needed someone who could play on the shoulder and stretch the game, which he does.
“I thank the board and the co-chairmen for the backing and support”
“I’m delighted with the support and backing I’ve had from the (new) owners (the COH Sports consortium). They have wanted to support me to continue in the race for a successful season.”
Bettis ; The 22-year-old striker was on the club’s radar in the summer (of 2024) but was unattainable under the previous ownership. The new guys listened to Chris and were really supportive of it’.
Given our fans are the most pessimistic and miserable in the country, the poor lad has no chance. Our negativity bewilders me, year in year out. I go to barnet games with the kids a lot when it coincides with our away games. We always sit in the away end there and talk to the fans. None of them are as negative or glass half empty as us yet have every right, they try to enjoy their day and take the football with a pinch of salt. God, go on OwlsTalk and there is more sarcasm and humility on there, then you ever find on here.In the interest of balance, I do think people forget how young Cannon is sometimes. He's 22 - the same age as Jebbison and Osula, and he's scored more goals than both of them combined. When Billy Sharp was 22, he struggled here too.
He's shown nothing for us so far, but he's scored a decent amount of Championship goals for a player his age. Maybe he needs a loan. Or maybe he's just shite.![]()

When did our fanbase start to take themselves so seriously, and lose perspective for what this club is? Or is this site massively unrepresentative of the average fan?
He had to drop to league 1 for us to find out though, not that fussed about doing that again.Kinda remember when Ched looked totally shit, until he wasn't. Maybe Tom is Ched 2025. Maybe.
Wilder spent a lot of money on flops but great getting brilliant players spending little or on frees.Darren Smith is still convinced the owners wanted him and it was not Wilder who asked for Cannon.
When people have rightly said we were interested in him the previous summer before the owners took over (Wilder thus the only constant), he has said it was still the previous owners that wanted him but when the takeover stalled and they were not in place, we had to pull out in August at the end of the window.
Some believe this on twitter/X.
Thoughts? Stop laughing.
Wilder will go down as one of our greatest ever managers post war (maybe 3rd behind Bassett and Harris) but the buys of Brewster and Cannon has literally been 30 million+ down the toilet.
Luke Freeman - club record feeOn the list of possible asking prices, for Tom Cannon's sale, missed off was, "Tuppence & a conker".
Therefore, sadly, I cannot vote.
Truthfully the answer should be more than was paid for him, or at worst, what they paid plus cost of his tenure at BDTBL.
Disappointing signing.
My old brain cannot recall a past equivalent one.
Maybe someone can?
