Player Suggestion Ben Mee

Agreed not the signing model but an adaptive, forward thinking club should be able to think out side of the box and your transfer targets/team playing style should be the first ones where you splash out however when an opportunity arises to sign an experienced CB which is exactly what the club is looking for and on a free then you should be putting a list together of why not. There isn't anything wrong with signing frees/loans especially as we have budget available for wages however signing a free on a couple of years deal just gives the club a bit of stability for the short term. I would be happy if we signed 3 CB Ben Mee types all on frees and got rid of Robinson, it would give some valuable experience at the back. The whole if they are good enough then they should play which usually applies to academy players the same applies at the other end if they can offer 60 mins plus at 35 and put in a solid shift then we have some depth to rotate the squad get them in.
Maybe but we haven't done anything significant regarding our alleged thinking in the box in terms of permanent signings.

Plenty of free centre backs that are still out there, including Mee, we could add 3 or 4 to the ranks no problems and not quite sure why we aren't, if they are fit get them in!
I think one (maybe two at a push) would be fine. Our younger players aren't crap, they just need an experienced, steady eddie to help organise them and provide some leadership on the pitch. Someone to stop heads dropping and keep morale up in the tougher moments. I'm thinking along the lines of Craig Short, Stearman, Jake Wright etc.

"Adaptive, forward thinking club, thinking outside the box" surely you haven't mistaken us for that kind of club?

Totally agreed but the 3/4 gives you the safety net too. Ben Mee is 35, if minutes are managed we probably could get 2 or at a push 3 seasons out of him but a few at that type of age gives options especially when the fixtures start to hit us with Saturday - Tuesday - Saturday and the Easter set etc, it would be nice to be in a position where we could rest and rotate out a CB or 2 and have a fresh pairing in for the next game without having to worry about fitness and if someone does pick up an injury or suspension we aren't in the position where we are short.

i was saying over the weekend who is going to be selles version of jake wright. as wilder was in this predicament 10 years ago. with him on brink of sack & called another micky adams

ben mee might be it & he has to be better than RND whose sadly nowhere near champ level any more & sasnuskas whose 18 & only expierence of mens football was 4 games for buxton in 6th tier

Staws& Clutching signing!... they ain't got no dosh!

If we get Mee and Zatterstrom I think that gives us a bit of a balance in terms of options. Two experienced pros in Mee and Robinson (or his replacement) and two highly rated young players in Bindon and Zatterstrom.
I'd be fairly happy with that as options

It's interesting this link comes up a few days after the Robinson (and RND) rumours. I am hopeful Mee replaces one or both of those and we are still wanting to get Thomas and Zat. To my mind, along with Bindon that would give our CB roster the overhaul it has needed for a long time. My big concern is CB partnerships can take a while to build and we no longer have the luxury of time.

As others have said, if we're getting Mee in as a culture carrier and potentially to replace Robinson as club captain, then I see this as a positive signing.

Was captain for Burnley under Dyche where nothing than 100% was acceptable.

Players have said that Mee is a top leader and sets high standards both in training and on the pitch.

Sign him tommorow you wont see him play for a month...fitness/no pre season.
Was apparently training with Pigs so he shouldn't be unfit, but you are right in saying he's had no preseason in terms of games.

Seemed to be available (if not always playing) for Brentford in a higher quality, more physically demanding league most of the time in the last 2 seasons, so he clearly looks after himself/keeps himself fit enough for a 35 year old.

Don't think he was training with them, Danny Hall insinuated it was bollocks earlier, he's a good pro and will have kept himself fit though

Yeah, I was a bit surprised when he said that the Wednesday links weren't genuine.

Apparently Mcburnie was training with Barnsley earlier this summer and has since gone to Hull.

Makes you wonder if we’ll bother.

Wrexham were the team linked with Robbo. If they are signing Doyle then that decreases their interest surely?

I’m not convinced we’ll adopt a policy that sees us have 3 left centre halves.
