Got to sell
No one else will come in for him
Agree.

Huge respect for him turning his Blades career around, with pretty long and usually committed service. Warm applause on his return.

Obviously it'd look borderline crazy to sell right now, considering we'd have only one senior CB "left"... but, we can obtain new CBs. We'd essentially be replacing him one year earlier.

We would need 3 CB's in if he goes. In my opinion:
  • A veteran CB. To help lead the team and guide younger players (essentially what Robbo does for us).
  • An established CB under 26.
  • A young promising CB (Zätterström)

However, I think it will be RND again if nobody comes in
i think someone like Craig Dawson for a year wouldn’t be the worse provided he’s fit.

He’s 35 now but he played 15 times in the PL last season so he’s still going strong.

He can play right back too.

Ben Mee also an option. Other frees to give depth would be Cooper formerly of Leeds or Rose formerly of Stoke. At least they are Championship level centre backs which Rhys isn’t.

He’d be a start and then you’d need a couple more.

Cheapest might be Mee, Zetterstrom and Gilchrist. It then at least gives Gilchrist two angles to get games.

The Korean lad can’t play centre half so a right back that can may work.

Just seems mad we are two weeks away from the window closing and we could need 4 defenders.

As with when they were suggested for Wednesday to sign, Mee isn't a footballer anymore, Cooper had to go to Bulgaria 2 seasons ago because he couldn't run, and was never that good to begin with

I think we're trying to get as much in as possible from Moore & Robbo to put towards buying a replacement i.e. Hughes

How do you mean Mee isn’t a footballer anymore? He was starting Premier League matches as recently as December.

This situation is indicative of broader concerns of our new owners' recruitment skills.

Was Wilder the long-term answer? No.
Were Souza or Anel realistically going to stay? No.
Were the returning loanees affordable? No.
Were other players, such as Brewster or Robinson ever likely to be the answer or good enough longer-term? No, of course not.

But we have zero indication as yet of the new owners' recruitment skills. Their budget, their scouting network, their ability to identify targets or to thrash out a deal. Their silence might mean their transfer business is well guarded, and I'd be all for that, but as it stands I can't help but feel that they don't have the skills or experience to navigate the transfer market and sign what we need. After all, we're now in need of 3 CBs if Robinson goes, a CDM, a CF to compete with Campbell and RB depth to support Seriki.

They're new to the EFL and to football ownership full stop.

And as it stands, I have very little faith in their ability to get what we need.

I wonder if they read this place, to gauge the temperature amongst the fan base?
Did the previous owners get involved in recruitment?

23 games in 2 seasons at 35 years old
On Brentford's bench last season though so can't have lost it, probably just some acceleration. They could have put someone else on the bench.

Not saying he's what we need. But presumably be an upgrade on JLT as one of our options.

He's 35 and hasn't been a regular player for at least 18 months. The chances of him being able to step in at United, play 35+ games in a way of playing that seems likely to be physically demanding are exceedingly slim

Agree but did we want JLT playing 35 games. Nope, maybe 10 or 15. No idea what Mr Mee is looking for as his next move but we thought JLT was in our squad this season and I'd guess (hard to know Mee's decline) Mee would be just as good if not better.

Don't know his wage demands either, obviously.

But if we don't go up this season we are screwed anyway. £7 million will neither be here nor there in regard to the financial mess we may be in without the £40 million parachute payment. The decision to sell Anel tells me that me that COH are not planning to invest any significant new money. They gambled in January & that backfired. They are trying to do this on the cheap - but I feel for Selles now.
Which is why any money spent needs to be considered. Just like last time Wilder has left the squad in an absolutely shite position.

COH are making sure that if we miss out on promotion this season we’re at the very minimum financially stable. The other option is throwing £30m of borrowed cash at it and praying we get promoted. That seemed like the plan last season and they don’t fancy it again.

Aye
I heard that Prince agreed to split it 50:50 with McCabe (but then ‘reneged’ on the ‘deal’ & its heading for the High Court)
The proposal that we're using our owners personal bank accounts to run the club and that all monies from sales and parachute payments goes straight into their Coutts current account ready for their grocery shop, and that this doesn't seems to ring as highly unlikely to many of our fans is completely baffling to me.

Well that's a weird take.

He's left a squad far better than when he took the job, on both occasions, and one that would be capable of promotion on both occasions.

For a squad left in an absolutely shite position, see the Paul Heckingbottom and Prince Abdullah era. A squad nowhere near good enough, ageing, and mostly out of contract.

Most sensible post I've read on this.

People bed wetting because he's our only option? Sorry, but if we can get money for him (assume he's on PL wages too) then it's a no brainer. As for leadership, i honestly don't buy that. Kicking players, swearing at fans, folding under pressure in big moments - that's not leadership.

If we're panicking because we've sold a 4 out of 10 CB then we need to get a grip.

I'd rather replace him now then waste another year of big wages.

Always remember him and Souza just pointing the fingers at each other when it was going to shit in the Premier League.

The majority of those options made me shudder

I'd quite happily play with Bindon and Sakanusus (sp?) v Swansea if it meant offloading Robinson and RND, but replacing them with 2 permanents and a loan who are more aligned to our new tactics/system.

*lots of 'ifs' though
Young lad looked worse than Robinson in pre season

But but but pashun....

He's a horrible CB and no amount of chest thumping and long throws are going to change that.

Why ?

Parkinson is arguably , currently one of the most successful managers in English football
Parkinson is doing this absolutely right. He is building a Wrexham team with very experienced Championship players for consolidation in the championship. United on the other hand seem to be losing all their experienced players :(
