Does that leave them with Fryatt only up front? Good news for us really.

I didn't realise Long and Jelavic were cup tied.

And here I was able to temper my optimism with those two names until now.

FFS.

  • 01 McGregor
  • 02 Rosenior
  • 03 Figueroa
  • 07 Meyler
  • 05 Chester
  • 06 Davies
  • 27 Elmohamady (Quinn - 81' )
  • 08 Huddlestone Booked
  • 12 Fryatt
  • 24 Aluko (Koren - 67' )
  • 20 Sagbo (Boyd - 58' )
This is the side from the Sunderland game.

Presumably Boyd in for Sagbo with few other changes then. I seem to remember them playing a funny formation in this game though, wasn't it 4-3-2-1 or something like that? Fryatt up top by himself.

Huddlestone on any sort of form should run the game at Wembley. If he misses out for whatever reason then it will be a real blow to them.

They only have one more game, this Saturday, before Wembley. We have two more. So there's more chance of us suffering more injuries or suspensions than them.

If they play one up front, we have a good chance of keeping a clean sheet. Our defensive record is pretty tight of late, including games against upper league opposition. Huddlestone is their only real quality player, if Blades can smother him and play from the back, keep it on the deck and don't panic, they might actually score a goal at Wembley. What a thought.

I wouldn't be so blase about that as I am not sure that is the be-all and end-all of it. If they play with Fryatt as a lone striker and Boyd as the next most forward supporting player then they will be seeking to play with a dynamic and fluid midfield to prise us open more than if they went with a traditional two up top. Somehting that Collins and Maguire should deal with more easily.

Hull's best bet is to get the ball to Huddlestone as much as they can and get the forwards and midfield dropping short, showing to receive and play it back to Huddlestone again until they carve out an opening in between our two banks of 4. They have to disrupt that solid formation to create a gap to turn in goal side to create an opening.

If we keep our discipline, like we have done on numerous occasions in the last couple of months then we may just prevent them from threatening too much. Don't forget that although Boyd hasn't played much in the Prem for them he is still a class way above this league and can cause us real problems with his movement and quality. In fact I am more concerned about him than Fryatt. Fryatt is a traditional striker with a strikers instinct who thrives on chances and confidence. When his confidence is high he will be getting into more positions to score and will be converting a good proportion of those - I am not so sure he has had enough game time to get near enough to his optimum level. In contrast Boyd just has so much natural ability that he can turn a game in a split second. That is much harder to counter if you let him receive the ball too many times - so the trick is to cut out his supply.

We will no doubt look to keep it as tight as possible - like away at Fulham perhaps - limiting their chances of getting a sight of goal as much as we can and eliminating crosses into the box. If we allow the likes of Meyler and Koren space to turn and run with it we could be carved apart. Hopefully, if they lose against Swansea on Saturday (3 defeats in a row) they will be a little fragile on confidence themselves and without Long or Jelavic they will feel shy on goal scoring prowess. The longer they go on without scoring the more concerned their fans will be and the more that will transmit to their players.

With a bit of luck and a following wind we shall see Murph or Flynn skip past one or two defenders to create that one or two chances that we need to make it more than just a memorable day out in the limelight for us - it could be yet another first for SUFC in the modern game - a third division club in the final of the FA Cup - It can't happen, surely, can it?

I'm with my fellow rust. However who knows. On our day, a bit of luck, an off day for them, this might be a Blades day....just as Villa, Fulham, Forest and Charlton discovered.

UTB, Coyraww, YFUMS.

If we bought any one of their players we'd be saying what a great coup it was and they'd be straight into the starting 11. Huddlestone is their best player but isn't the only one that can do damage by a long shot. We need 11 players playing 11 out of 10 and we need them to be 5/10.

It's 89 years since we won at Wembley. What year were we formed? Eighteen EIGHTY NINE. And I "ate nine" mini-pork pies while watching our victory over Notts Forest. Surely an omen of sorts.

A ban could rule him out of the FA Cup semi-final against Sheffield United.

"We'll defend him vigorously because we don't think Yannick has tried to offend anybody," said Hull boss Steve Bruce.

Hull, who have until Tuesday to respond to the FA charge, said they will seek a personal hearing.

Bruce added: "We could lose him, and especially with semi-finals and finals coming up and Shane Long and Nikica Jelavic not available, then of course it would be a big blow to us."

What final's that then Steve? Bought the suit already have we?

Exactly what I thought when I read it. I hope Bruce's team go into the game with that "we've got a bye to the final" attitude.

Brown sauce with them? I bloody hope sauce!

Jeez Kenilworth, hope Brucie aint reading this board now youv'e given him all the info on how to beat us !!!
Don't forget 'Careless talk costs lives !' :p

We have earned the right to get this massive opportunity to play an under strength small Premiership club in the semi-final of the FA Cup. We go into the game with a quality manager who seems to me to have found his true niche and senses his time has come to make his real mark in the game . It feels to me as though our manager and the whole of our football club feel as though we are in the early stages of a surge forward, regardless of us qualifying for the final this time.

We have a way of playing which is ideal for Wembley. We get numbers behind the ball, defend well at the back and have a capable, mature keeper. When we gain possession we are quick on the break and have a winger who can destroy teams; his colleagues know that and have the optimism and confidence to complement his runs with numbers in support. The way of playing is ideal for the cup and for Wembley.

Hull are doling we'll this season, way exceeding expectations. They have bought well but the new players have changed their way of playing and are not eligible for Wembley. Their rhythm is affected and some players have not had enough time on the pitch. Injuries have robbed them of two of their best planters, Brady and McGregor. Not one of the players to face us at Wembley would get in a Prem top six side; a couple wouldn't get in our side. There is intense pressure on Huddlestone, he needs space and time on the ball and won't get it. Livermore is good but not brilliant. Boyd blows hot and cold. Meyler is ok, Elmohamady has good days and bad. The defence is solid usually, the keeper needs games and is old, but steady. February, we'll he's a perpetual reserve or loaned these days. By this evening they will have lost 3 in a row.

Should we have signed a striker on loan? I thought so but NC said recently the players who got us there deserve the opportunity. No arguing with that and looking across the city, they signed four in a week all available for the cup, and they are no longer in it. Leadership like this engenders loyalty and and commitment.

On the day Hull may have 70 per cent possession early on but they have to make it count. The longer we stand firm the more runs Murphy and Flynn will go on. Hulls full backs look vulnerable defensively and will need cover. Scougall and Cody will run their midfield ragged on the counter attack. If Hull over commit we will get chances.

The other key man is Baxter. He has the class to make the difference in key moments in big games. He'll be quiet for spells, neat and tidy, overpowered in the air, but when the opportunities arise he will spot them. I reckon he has more natural ability than Huddlestone and, given the opportunities, he will deliver.

The size of the occasion will get to both teams. They are used to the Premiership and gained promotion last season so they have the advantage. NC said he thought we were overwhelmed by the occasion for the first half against Charlton; that's a worry. On the other hand we are the underdogs with a spirit of adventure and a certain sense of joy about how the season has unfolded. We are due a Wembley goal, we are due a Wembley victory. This is only Hulls second semi-final ever; who will be the most nervous?! I reckon the law of averages will see us through and it will be them not us who will bottle it !!

As if Brucie hasn't already worked this out for himself :)

What's strange is that I am actually looking forward to a trip to Wembley.
That's just not normal is it?

Now there's a surprise. Bruce coming all over myopic about one of his dirty bastard players.

Hull Tigers the new West Ham?

Allan McGregor: Hull City goalkeeper set to leave hospital

Hull keeper Allan McGregor will leave hospital this weekend after suffering kidney damage playing against West Ham.

The Scottish international was injured in a collision with Mohamed Diame for which McGregor, 32, was sent off.

McGregor is out for the rest of the league season, but hopes to play in the FA Cup final on 17 May, if Hull beat Sheffield United in the semi-final.

Tigers manager Steve Bruce said: "I'm sure he'll be doing everything he possibly can to get himself back."

Bruce added: "It is typical Allan. The doctors say he's going to be out for six weeks and he said to me, 'Yes, but the final is seven weeks' away'.

McGregor has missed only six of Hull's 31 Premier League matches since a £1.5m move from Turkish side Besiktas last summer.

Hull, who are 14th in the Premier League, successfully appealed against McGregor's red card in the 2-1 defeat at West Ham.
