I get where you're coming from but this is not an experiment. It's not like Slav. We have the players Selles needs for his system, the question is when injuries kick in will he shove round holes in square pegs to cover for them, or will he adapt his formation to suit what he has available at his disposal?
Sorry mate, by experiment I really meant complete overhaul with a squad who might/might not be able to do it, therefore needing 2 or 3 transfer windows to achieve the end result. Actually, fuck it, experiment ;)
As for adapting, from what I've read, he's not averse to shaking things up. Problem is I guess, will his plan B be as effective or better than his plan A
I guess we should at least be grateful that we have a manager that HAS a plan B this time!

Hamer, I agree about. Sometimes I wish he'd work WITH the other players rather than trying to work FOR the other players....if that makes sense?!
Yes, sometimes O'Hare can be a tad wasteful, but I think he's looked much better than last year.
Yeah maybe im expecting too much but given how they linked up early season last year and then never really played together again I just thought that the idea of the two of them in central midfield was very exciting

They do have a monumental amount of work to get through though so I guess it's going to take time
O hare was frustrating today first half he picked the ball up in good areas several times but then just gave it away usually just playing a poor pass when it seemed easier to find his man but as I said he does have phases like this if we can get him firing 🔥 then what a player
Gus im.a bit more concerned about it just dont think hes fit enough to press for 90 minutes and then use the ball well or make good decsions when he is on it but again time will tell
Didn't think Peck was fantastic either and I thought second half when they pressed us more intensely the default of looking for the safe pass came back and ultimately one of the many many backpacks to the keeper went wrong and cost us a game we deserved to win

Agree with all that mate.

I thought that too. For the last 15-20 minutes they went back to safety ball when they were in good positions and the decision making looked off. They sometimes crossed when there was no one there or passed to the nearest player when there were better wide options. Other times they didn't cross when they could have and went backwards. Perhaps this was tiredness setting in and clouding judgement as they've not done it in any other pre-season games.

It was only a late lapse in the game where they were bound to tire against better players who looked fitter and faster than them, who they admirably matched for the majority of the game.

I'm just waiting to see how things transpire. We need a few more in without any key outgoings.

But aside from that it's still kinda an unknown as to how Sellesplay will work out for us.

When the board decided to change from Wilder it's a gamble. I suppose nearly every new manager appointment is.

We've all got to give it a chance. See where we are, how we are playing and how it feels after about 12-14 games.
That's the time for an early opinion.

This summer has been the very start of a complete root and branch overhaul of almost every aspect of the club.

New owners, new management and coaching staff introducing a new style of play. A totally different, data driven recruitment strategy, with an emphasis on future potential from previously untapped sources, with a blend of some established experienced Championship players.

I don’t expect everything to go our way this year, I don’t care if we get promoted this season. I will however be very satisfied if over the next two or three seasons, I see improvement year on year, as the club fine tunes and perfects processes and strategies that are currently, very much in their infancy. If, as a result, we see advancements on and off the field, that ultimately leads us to a place, where we can become a sustainable, competitive, established Premier League side.

It is a time for patience, we may have stumbled to 92 points last season, but we weren’t anything like ready for the Premier League and in my opinion, would only have faced another humiliating season this year. Not everything is going to fall perfectly into place for the new owners and Selles, but it’s a change that needed to be done and ultimately, if given time, I believe will be to the benefit of everyone associated with the club and that includes the supporters.

Without signing at least one RB, two CB and a CDM, I do not think we will make top six. Are our new owners just as skint as the prince????? if so, it will be a long season.
Perhaps the quality players needed are not yet being released by their clubs. No sensible amount of money will push PL clubs into reducing their squads before they have strengthened.

...before we are asking for boring 1-0 wins?
I thoroughly enjoyed watching a game this evening in which we lost 3-2, much more than the defeats towards the end of last season, and although there are a number of mitigating circumstances, the 'it looks like we'll lose too many high scoring games next season' brigade (including me) look like they have a point worthy of consideration.
So what happens if this turns out to be the case? How long before the 'it's results that matter' brigade start taking the high ground?

Yes it's still early days where much can happen, but beating last season's 1-0 laden, 92-point, 3rd placed finish looks beyond us at the moment.
We really do look like that work in progress, one for the future, and although we might make the necessary signings that might gel quickly...equally they might not, or at least not enough to trouble the to 2 and dare I say it the top 6?

Question is, do we have the patience to see the experiment through?

If we’re up and around the top six and playing good football I think most fans will stick with it…

EQUALLY!,... We can either go to the games and see what happens with/under this new regime!, support and bemoan it/them throughout the season as we always do!!.
Or,
Not go to the games, and, well!, ditto as above without supporting it/them!.
To all who WILL ACTUALLY be sat in a seat at BDTBL this coming season, fingers crossed things work out for the best, but!, if it falls to pieces, (God willing!) I will we will be back and do it all again for the 26/27 season.
Goodnight my fellow Blades

You may need to consider how easily lower league teams scored and created chances against us with our best defenders on the pitch, plus the best midfield we could put out played today and we looked extremely vulnerable.
We won’t play a better team than Nice all season they finished fourth and fifth the previous season and are involved in the champions league

The team were still learning Selles' methods and trying to get match fit. Give them a break. It's pre-season.

As for the midfield today, they played against a team who finished 4th in their league last season, and a division higher than the Championship at that. Don't read too much into it.
Largely agree.

There was a hint of Sunday league about the own goal but I’m hopeful for the season

100% if we’d have gone up it would of been another season of embarrassment.
Would quite happily finish 7th/8th this season
Football might be better to watch aswell you never know.

Promotion or bust for me but with a plan and identity. Not going up means sales on a grand scale

Watching the pre-season (because it's all we have to go on) we only played poorly against Burton.

We could have been 3/4 up before we scored against the team who finished 4th in Ligue one.

We have let in sloppy goals but I don't think we have been all over the place defensively and the willingness for the midfield to get back was very apparent to me.

Although we have given defensive stability away for a bit more creativity I'm not personally as worried now about the "experiment" as I was after the York game.

Probably worth looking at Selles’ defensive record at Hull. He can shut teams out with a lot worse players than he has available to him with us.

It’s almost like he’s an astute, tactically flexible manager that’s using pre-season games to practice patterns of play and positions with a new team. I appreciate that’s a radical change from our previous approach of defend and then clog it whilst using pre-season games as an excuse to see his mates and go for a piss up.

Only an idiot like Gormless Gobshite Giddens and his motley crew swallow the crap of the imbecile Wilder that there are only these two ways of playing.
That playing negatively boring the shit out of everybody in your own box wins matches.
That entertaining football loses.
1. The owners are looking shysters.
They 'sold' one of two top midfield players for peanuts without a replacement for this shit system.
2. The manager is an imbecile. He 'thinks' there is only 'HIS' way to play regardless of players.
3. There is currently a good team at Bramall Lane
A WINNING and ENTERTAINING team.
It is
Cooper
Bindon Anel Robinson/RND
Seriki Hamer Peck Brooks Burrows
Campbell Barry
although Campbell is worrying me as he is showing nothing.
4. Will these players remain.
5. Will any first team Championship ready players be signed.
6. We should have had a hard home friendly to bed the manager in.
7. Bristol City outplayed us in the league last season.
Dominated possession.
How are we going to win it back the opening day with the managers players and tactics
Apart from a goal kick from a missed chance or a kick off after a goal.

You do know that 'imbecile' Wilder is not our manager, don't you?

I always say, wait until first ten.league games have been played, then you get an idea of how the season.might go.

Why do you ask shite like that ? We have played a few teams in friendlies, scored a few, conceded a couple. Played a decent side with absentees, new manager, different approach, young players, assessment of squad, formation, fitness. Our supporters sometimes, always looking for the moaning negative. A wilder lover by chance ?

Wunt it be best to give Selles a chance to show what He can do and how his tactics work? We will soon find out. Then if we have a reght bad start to the season no nowhere near the playoff position, Questions will be asked. If it's poor. And they sack him. Replacement sausage Roll. Going to get my tin hat on, nah and hide behind the sofa.

You know what amazes me?
How easy it is for someone to get something completely different from the posters intended point..
And before you ask me to explain, do us a favour and re-read it with an open mind please.
Cheers 👍
