I would actually rather we spent no money and instead got a Cat 1 Academy.
You did say spend no money

Because this current squad using all 5 loan slots would get relegated, would it?
Loans are not free so therefore using all 5 loan spots would be spending money
Spending money on players that would have no resale value
Make your mind up

I don't think he is a Souza type player from the little clips I've seen. He's much more creative from deep, a marauding who breaks up play and then looks to take it forward. Souza didn't do that, or did it rarely, even if we were screaming at him to drive on into the space, it just wasn't his thing.
Looking at the rating wheels it seems Souza was a more defensive, shielding type player.

I do think Souza's starting spot is where we would play him, but I don't think we're looking for a like for like replacement.
We've struggled at playing through the middle in Arblasters absence. With Tyler Bindon coming in, hopefully Anel having more free reign, Gus in the middle and this fella, we should be more than capable.
Im over thinking these stats though, because his entire highlight reel is him intercepting passes, nipping in-between runs, reading the game and winning possession, I just cant get my head around why that percentage is so low on his ratings. The breaks, the dribbles and the explosion through the centre is clear for all to see though.

No. I can’t remember him doing it. He was famously quite dismissive of rumours, despite his mate telling all on twitter. Other managers have in the past though mentioned their targets.

And then randomly said we were looking at Shea Charles the day after he'd left the pigs.

He was a bit of a cock at times wasn't he. Needed to remember his position as football manager and not Sheffield United fan - it's our job to wind up the pigs, not his.

I quite liked all that banter. He was a fan and he leant into it.
The only time I felt a tad embarrassed was Plymouth away where he completely lost his head.

Plymouth was shocking. Called out 3,000 fans when it was 2 or 3.

Couple more that embarrassed me...
  • "Players on 40 grand a week"
  • The sandwich incident
Both sounded petulant after tough results.

But then the "Muppets from Leeds" comment was quality - I understand how this is contradictory in what I'm saying BTW.

I think his 'banter' was much better in victory than in defeat

He could be very funny in winding them up but I take the point that he often went too far.

After we beat them at the Sty and he went off on one in his post match interview, I was actually cringing listening to it. However he did get one thing absolutely right when he talked about how we had earned everything that we had, through hard work, sound investments and knowing when to sell our assets. Nothing had been given to us. The obvious implication being that they had been numerous hand outs and leg ups over the years, but never made the most of them or invested in the right way.

We are now seeing the (latest) end game of those bad decisions at their end.

That was quite funny. Straight after that fans meeting as well. He used to be dead prickly though. It’s obvious someone close to him was leaking as we had an idea of what was going off, contrast to now where no one except Bladeshub has any idea.

He always said the highs were higher and the lows lower as a fan managing his own team. I just felt every now and again he needed to give himself an hour to calm down before he started venting. Not in the same ballpark as Warnock mind

He was , and is , the best thing to happen to Sheff U in many a year - he gave us pride in our club and respect and an element of fear from others . He put us firmly on the map and we became a serious football club that could live off his efforts for , again - many years .

Where would we have been without him ? Who knows but he deserves every respect and best wishes .

Good lord - just recall the absolute clowns who have (miss) managed and supposedly led our club over the decades and then profile CW against that lot .

It was time for a change - I hope Snr Selles is all we wish for and more - but he will have been a success if he achieves half of what CW did - imo
