This is very true. We’ve been very fortunate to have great homegrown players come out of our academy recently. It’s probably been our best asset since we went back down, because our young players have filled in and impressed when called upon. Hopefully we see some of them kick on and truly establish themselves.

In my mind, our academy has been one of the best in the North recently, maybe one of the best in England. Long may it continue.
I would actually rather we spent no money and instead got a Cat 1 Academy.

I think it's important to find the right balance between the low risk/high reward approach but also bringing in players that are more safe bets. I love this new strategy of trying to find diamonds in the rough and develop them. But even Brighton have brought in the likes of Welbeck and Milner over the years.

Who are the 'proven' players who've joined Championship clubs this summer?
I’d also have to ask, who is defining ‘proven’ in this case?

This kid Soumare looked pretty good in Portugal’s top flight, a league at least comparable to the championship, if not better. His underlying stats look very promising, he’s young, and, most of all, he won’t cost an arm and a leg. Have we just never heard of this bloke and therefore dismiss him?

The footballing world doesn’t revolve around Britain, just because we haven’t heard of a particular player doesn’t mean he’s an unknown quantity or somehow worse than English players of a similar age. He could well contribute to our squad. My point is that people are way too quick to dismiss this lad just because they haven’t heard of him and write them off as unproven. As with any signing, it may not work out, but that shouldn’t stop us from potentially finding a midfield lynchpin.

As others have said, there’s no problem with there being a balance between signing championship/league one players and foreign players. I liked the signing of Tyler Bindon, and if this signing goes through, I’ll like it too.

I think proven, for a lot of people means 'a player Wilder would have wanted'

I very much doubt we'll sign that many.

We have 3 senior keepers, so that would be madness unless 2 are going out on loan.
RB
CB (depends on Baptiste, but assuming Anel goes then we'll need one or two (he might start Robbo so then one)
1 CM and then a 6 month loan to cover Arblaster
1 x wide player. We've got Brooks and we have players who can play wide
I can't see us signing another striker unless one leaves. One my go on loan so potentially one place up for grabs.

I really don't think we'll spend very much tbh, but all these signings cost moeny one way or another.
We can't afford to let Anel go - he's the only tall enough one with any experience.
Don't be mentioning Robbo RND & Baptiste.
FFS.
Look at what Leeds & Burnley had at CB last season and give your head a wobble.
We absolutely need a top CB to come in and marshall the defence coz Anel is not that personality.
We then play him and Anel with the new kid Binden being fed in slowly as a backup.
Anything less than that and we're mid-table.
Just put Robbo , RND & Baptiste right out of your mind.
They are nowhere near being CBs in a promotion team , not a chance.

He did buy captains of clubs. Even the young ones like Burrows captained their sides.
So yeah, you could class Dunne as 'a player Wilder wanted' but being QPR's captain, and player of the season, you could simply class him as (free and) proven as well.

with Selles I think he’s going to either bring in players who know his system already or young players eager to make it. It’s very hard for older players to buy in to his system, see Harley Dean.

He is quite similar to poch in that respect and he brought Kane through when no spurs fans wanted it.

Let the man cook, don’t be a snob about who he brings in and how much it costs. That’s not what he’s looking for

It wasn't meant as a dig at him. But the players that are proven at this level in that way tend to not be the ones with the potential to go a lot higher.

Much more risk with this strategy, but potentially more reward

Anel needs to be sold because he leaves for a free next summer and a well-run club can't just chuck away millions.

I agree we'd need to replace him though.

Bindon will start the season at CB.

Bang on mate👍

Worth the punt, left footed brings some balance to midfield.
I bet the Leicester fans were thinking who are these players they've plucked from France in Kante and Mahrez? Though more than likely we'll end up with another Coulibaly.

Chin up mate, its got to change sometime 🙏

Agree, worth a punt and hoping this works out as the club needs to be more progressive. But it does have Coulibally vibes (although he wasn't really given a run of games and did well Vs Spurs in fa cup)

Imho , if Anel leaves , we'll have to buy TWO good CBs , which means spending more money , which cancels out the "loss" on letting Anel walk next summer.
I dunno - I hate this issue of "sell now to get some cash".
But what I do know is we at least 3 "top end of Championship" CBs and none of Robbo , RND or Baptiste qualifies.
I trust that Binden does , or why's he been recruited.
So we need Anel plus a leader or if Anel goes we need two good uns which we don't look like we can afford unless there's another loanee out there like Souttar was.

Robbo is fine as back up. I think we'll sign someone who can play both RB & CB. And then replace Abel. I'd still be very interested in Worrall.

Except for the time we got promoted with Robbo and RND in the side.

Souza gone, Blaster out till September, Tom Davies, Shackleton 2/3 months away, then out again until new year!!!!!!! Lol. This is a good move, if it comes off brilliant, if not we move on. Its cost effective, UK based players are so expensive to recruit. I for one was delighted to see BBD back last year, but honestly felt so disappointed.

I’m with you CaptainMorgans other than the GK. One of the wide players is Barry so that leaves 3-5.
Who is leaving? Because we absolutely are not going to be paying 10+ first team players to watch from the stands.

There’s currently room for a right back who can also play centre half, ironically someone like the profile of Gilchrist.

Assuming this midfielder comes in, there may be room for one right winger if we don’t deem Brooks first choice and we don’t deem Ikaki as good enough back up (he can also play right back apparently).

Anything beyond this is going to have to be matched with outgoings.

On (hopefully) less contentious territory, if you get the opportunity, visit Braga for a game. Magnificent city,,wonderfully hospitable folk & an incredible stadium - built in a quarry with one ‘end’ a rock face. Access to the stands is via an under the pitch concourse?!?!?!

I went for a UEFA Cup tie v Hearts & about half the party of 20 didn’t return until almost a week later with Braga fans providing impromptu ‘board & lodge’!
That favour was reciprocated in the next round when HOMFC played Schalke in Embra & some Braga fans also went to Rotterdam when Hearts played Feyenoord
The affiliation has continued with ‘regular’ meetings ups since with Braga regularly /routinely playing in European competition - I know folk who’ve seen / joined them in
Brum, Wolves, Notlob, Leicester, Bruges, (Slovan) Bratislava Marseille, (Union)Berlin Udinese Brugge Hoffenheim& many more (Manure, Farsenal ) including Europa League final in Dublin.
Last season a small group joined us in Bruges & Copenhagen for Hearts defeats
Braga have recently played Frankenrangers (2012) a couple of time which caused some confusion/ complications / consternation although I (certainly) didn’t fancy being part of that.
May be further opportunity this season if they (Braga not Hearts!) can get past (Levski) Sofia next 2 Thursdays
Apologies- insomnia = off on a tangent- In summary Go to Braga
