Ruben rates robbo

Might be wrong here but I'm sure Robbo was Club Captain last season, while Arblaster was Team Captain, meaning he'd wear the armband whenever Robbo wasn't playing.

Similar to how Egan (Team Captain) captained most games in the 22/23 season but Billy was still the Club Captain.
He was club captain last year and was and is shyte

No he isn't.
We need a lot better (stronger, faster, taller with better distribution, leadership and defensive positioning) if we are thinking of going up. He does a decent slide tackle on small foreign wingers and can throw it in well, but will get ragged around like a doll by any half decent championship target man.

I agree we need a better player. But that doesn't make him shit (as the other poster said). He's a serviceable Champ CB and a decent back up.

I have also said (3 times now) that he isn't a leader and shouldn't be captain.

He’s a liability slows the game down poor decision making and loves a rugby tackle = shyte no more than a reluctant third choice

🎙️ Ruben Selles on if Jack Robinson will be United captain at the start of the season

"Of course. He's one of the most important players and in terms of players managing themselves, he becomes one of the leaders in the dressing room. So that's not been a difficult decision."
This is just diplomatic comment.
As soon as we recruit a captain quality defensive leader of a CB , Robbo will fade into oblivion - he's only here coz Wilder twisted the club's arm to give his mate another year.

I have a dream ....

The only way to bring proper closure to what became the increasingly bizarre Wilder era is to remove Robbo from the club.

I'm convinced that Wilders failure to replace Souttar promptly and with a match-fit quality CB early in the January window is one of the reasons for his removal.

Only then to bring in a non-match-fit Holding at great expense , thereby prolonging Robbo's place in the team.

And then , to cap it all , once Holding got match-fit , to continue preferring Robbo was like adding insult to injury for the owners.

And then spending the £10m on a Cannon that doesn't fire , instead of a quality CB , begins to look like insanity.

If the owners either can't see this or can't grasp this nettle , they are not the businessmen I had imagined them to be and that's disappointing.

On the field JLT is one of those players who fits in the category 'Blade at heart.' Retaining him as captain, the apparent second chance scheme and the more baffling loyalty to clearly unfit players underlines the notion that the club is gambling/relying on Ruben getting a different tune out of more or less the same instruments.

With Blaster out until September, I am not sure who else he could give this role to?

I do think when he announces team for Bristol, Robinson will be on the bench not starting.

He is clearly trying to also send the message that everyone in that group is part of the club and getting a 2nd chance, as I guess he doesn't want to cold shoulder people who he might need.

Keeping him on as captain

First strike there for new manager
Must mean we havent got funds to bring anyone in and anel is being offered around
Frank, and I say this with love, but you’re being a right fanny here. In recent history I remember club captain being awarded to 2 players who were amongst the longest serving but weren’t first team regulars, Robinson being one of them.

He absolutely has his faults, but the last 3 managers appear to think he is quite a bit better than you do.

As club captain, I'm OK with that, as a defender, no not this year, we will be playing a high press and that last thing we need is a volatile defender who can't get back.

I see multiple sending offs and penalties.

Hope you're right but I dont see us being linked with any defenders and he has started bindon and him together twice now and anel in last year of his contract

If he is anywhere near the team then we are where we were last season ,too good for most teams but not good enough to beat the best

I’ve not got a problem with Robbo getting the captaincy. I don’t think it just goes on what happens on the pitch but it’s more to do with what happens off it.

He’s not the most gifted or talented player and he will be very much a bit part player this season in my eyes but he is a good solid pro, doesn’t moan of whinge when he doesn’t get in the side and helps manage the dressing room by setting the standards and is probably a bit of a conduit between management and the players.

Honestly, given the amount of shite posted by people clearly just making things up I’m not sure which are genuine links but we’ve had Phillips at Spurs, and Hughes from Hull mentioned either of which would be significant signings.

As is the corridor between Ruben's office and the changing room of course.

Phillips seemed genuine but went quiet after we signed bindon
Hughes is just made up rumour so far

Im normally pretty non plussed about these things but was happy for us to go in a different direction after wilder but a new guy needs backing to bring in his own people and play his own system and im getting the feeling this guy was brought in because he is good at fighting fires and working on a low budget with what he has

It's blatantly obvious that we need another centre back, even if Anel is staying. Who we sign will be a pretty clear indication of the financial wherewithal and ambition of the board. CB is absolutely crucial and we need a rock to build the defence around. I'm hoping this lad Hughes at Hull City is the one. Hes the right age, looks the part, is highly rated and Selles knows him well.
