Sasnauskas been promoted to first team. Interesting that RS has already seen something.

Could have potentially unearthed a hidden gem here?

TBF, it's not a 100% guarantee that he will be a 1st team player all season, it might be just for now.

He's our 4th choice CB at the moment (behind Anel, Bindon and Robbo) unless something changes.

Later in the window, we might sign another 1st team CB and say to him.

"Dovy, we rate you very highly, but we want you playing consistent 1st team football that you might not get with us right now, so we're going to send you on loan to play every week until January, then bring you back and assess the situation again"

Basically, a repeat of the Arblaster to Port Vale situation.

But that's just my interpretation/opinion, I might be wrong and he might play 30-40 games with us this season.

Agrer re loan as If he plays 30 games it means we have no money to spend. Centre back is the position we need to strengthen most and anyone we bring in will be ahead of him in the pecking order. He needs to do what Bindon has done, loan to div one/two and a lot of games to prove himself

The jump from development level to the Championship is huge. It's like playing for a lower half League One side then being expected to jump straight into the Premier League.

The development level is the equivalent of National League and lower League Two. A loan move would have be favourable for his long term development. Sasnauskas has proven himself as being consistent at development level and like Marsh last season, another season there would be holding him back. It's one of the reasons we need category A status as soon as possible as the level is equivalent to League One.

We've done amazingly well to produce the players we have, though arguably Ndiaye and Brooks don't count as they played at a higher level and we picked them up after they were released. They were already technically developed as players and just needed exposure to meaningful matches.

Could be another N’Diaye situation where the best player is in our academy and for whatever reason Wilder didn’t fancy him (probably because he can’t pronounce his name).

Sasnauskas made the step up from academy to development team at the end of the season before last, then spent last season in the development team. He's only 18 and has done well to progress as quickly as he has. He was never in consideration or close for consideration last season regardless of who was manager. He's got a great opportunity over pre-season to show Selles what he's about.

Centre back must be just about the most difficult position for a teenager to make a mark at pro level. Despite the game having come on from the "head it, kick it if it moves" mantra of old fashioned centre backs you still need to be physically imposing to make it at the position. Bindon looks a unit whereas Dovy still looks like a teenager but will likely develop massively in the coming years

I'd say cat1 is lower than league one level. They aren't doing great in the EFL trophy are they

I think physically it’s the least forgiving position for a kid. There’s no hiding place and you will be tested out mercilessly by big nasty opponents.

If we’re playing Bindon or any other kid at the back. I want a proper shithouse defensive partner for him. And we lack that.

We've lacked that kind of player for years, although Souttar with his size filled the role until injured last year

Thanks to Wilder we've still got one of those, but he's more shit than house.

If you are talking about Robinson hes definitely more shit than shithouse. He's barely 5ft 11in and less than 11 stone according to our website. He gets rag dolled by properly strong centre forwards, hence the shirt pulling, and isnt good in the air. None of us should mistake reckless tackles and chest beating for a proper shithouse centre back.

Re Centre Back
Don't forget Jamal Baptiste

I'd suggest he's ahead of Sasnauskas in the when everybody is fit pecking order.

On the other hand, the best centre back I've seen in my lifetime is 5'9"

Id put baptiste in front of robbo ( sorry but that's my opinion)

Interested to see more of Sasnauskas. We've not really had a decent CB prospect come through the academy since Maguire, and he was helped no end by us being in League One while he learned the ropes.

I've said before that I feel able to say who has played well in a particular Academy game I've watched. And who has played well over a consistent run of games. And who has put a smile on my face.

But, I know I cannot convert that into "potential" or "level" or how they might do longer term in the first team.

And players do ebb & flow, having good patches and bad patches. But.....

Sasnauskas was marked down a bit for me after I saw him get an absolute pasting by Category 1 Southampton.

That, is what I'm anticipating for him, to a tee.

He's getting exposure to the first team environment for now, with a likelihood of some minutes in pre-season friendlies as well.

But there's no way we can expect to be able to throw him in against Championship opponents, without any prior first team experience.

Neither Anel or Robinson, as our (currently) 2 most senior CBs, would be great at supporting a young lad playing for the first time at senior level.

We'll likely be hunting for another experienced CB for the first team currently, with an intention to send Dovy out on loan. Would imagine getting him out to a League 2 side would be a probable aim for us at this point in his development, or perhaps an upper National League team.

He's seemed to struggle against real pace, and although he is young, that may be a limitation for him.

There's been a debate in Norway about centre halves. A lot of emphasis was put on defenders being comfortable on the ball, technically good and having a good 'attitude'. In the process we found ourselves with very few physical options at centre half for the national side. There is a similar trend with United rarely developing big and fast centre halves.

Most centre halves struggle against real pace. I suspect Selles favours centre halves who are very comfortable on the ball and can play through the lines which is why he might have taken a shine to big Dovy.

Apparently not, he wasn't on the list of players who were there which was published a few days ago.

Same with Miguel Freckleton and Sai Sachdev.
He is injured.

Sachdev put out a video of them both training saying good to be back on the grass.

The weather looked Spanish but as they aren't on the list I am just assuming Its Costa Del Shirecliffe

Different game back then I would respectfully suggest if it’s who I think you mean. Best I can remember in recent times was Ricardo Carvalho at Chelsea. He absolutely carried the much vaunted John Terry in the games against us. Probably one of the most successful centre backs ever?? Hard as nails too. Transfermarkt has his height as 1.82m, so 6’
