“First class honours degree in Football Journalism” is the mantra the Antichrist will chant before ushering in the end of the world.
First class honours degree in Football Journalism, from derby not worth the piece of paper it's written on 😂

If money was tight they wouldn’t have spunked £10m on a striker in January while we were top of the league.

To what effect? What are you confirming?
I tend not to keep track of who says what but off the top of my head there’s been at least one poster with a decent record who in the process of giving one piece of info said they’d also heard our budget was fairly tight. I can’t recall who.

They did because Wilder said it would guarantee promotion. Ended well!
Yep and that disastrous January - Cannon, BBD, Holding,Wilson - which also meant we were paying Gilchrist to not play - effectively cost Wilder his job. He was backed big time at a time we were top of the league & failed. Sadly he has learnt a tough lesson about how US investors run businesses ……miss your targets & you are out!

Our budget may well be tight but I'm sure the £9.5mil profit from Souza will be reinvested, after all we've free up money on the wage bill selling him and losing Brewster.

I’m sure you’re right. Regardless I think people are getting a bit precious over a random rumour about our budget. If we do have money to spend maybe it’s no bad thing if it’s out there that we don’t!

Honestly "my opinion" looking at who we're being seriously connected with

Phillips being quoted 6m
Hungarian lad suspect 4m ( currently being touted to Portsmouth)
Alzate did I read ? 6m

Either the Hungarian lad or Alzate its 10/12m not a bad outlay
But personally I don't think we're in that bad shape if we can add 2 more fairly quickly.

Keepers Cooper, faxon
Rb Seriki/Shackleton
Rcb anel ,baptiste
Lcb bindon,Phillips
Lb burrows, mccallam
Cm blaster, peck, Davies, Alzate
Att mid/wingers O'Hare, gus,brooks, jeff,Christian
Forward Campbell, Cannon, Moore, one

Plus a lot of the youngsters who may be ready ? And a few other senior players who could fill in for injuries.
And any good loans?

I know we've got a few we could do with moving out but that's another thing ,before anyone starts.

Ambition to me means holding onto the core group, particularly Hamer, Anel, and Cooper. We don't have many spots to fill in the squad unlike last year when we had a complete rebuild. Yes, we need a handful of quality players in, but it's early doors so let's not read too much into 'missing out' on players we probably were never in for.

It's stilla bit early isn't it? United have 18 players under contract who made 15+ senior apps at EFL/SFL level last season, plus Oné, Hampson, Sasnauskis, Caceres, Ukaki, Chucky, Faxon. That's 25 players who need to be assessed for how they'll fit into whatever Selles is planning to implement.
I’d much rather the way Arsenal did deals under Wenger. Aside from youth investments he was quite frugal intil the last couple of years and just added key players.

We did a rebuild last year. We don’t need to be paying excessive amounts to football agents.

We’ve quietly gone about securing youth lads though it may be Sidibe slips away due to things beyond our control.

I’d rather be patient and sign 4 players of quality than have 11 come in who are mix of muchness and do a job on their day.

That’s how you end up like Wednesday!

It would be madness to not sell Anel. Less than a year left, no intention of signing another contract and can walk for free next summer. Holding on to players because they might help us is precisely why Wednesday is on a mess.

Did anyone think we were going to be spending 20 million plus on players?

I think most expected maybe 5-10m of player acquisitions (depending on outgoings) with maybe a couple of free transfers and some loans.

That would still be 6-8 players incoming.

You know this for a fact eh ? FFS

Nobody does outside of Wilder and the board. But we all agree £10m was a substantial fee for the Championship in January. An outlay like that, when we'd just lost a vital defender, would surely come with some justification that it was necessary at least?

How is some second rate journalist going to know the budget of a consortium of owners that even we dont know the full list of, never mind their combined wealth.

Easy answer he doesn't.

No leaks coming out of the Lane so I fear some journo's are just making stuff up to fill column inches.

There's more credible stuff on our rumours page and that's approx 99.5% bollox.
Aye
‘Only’ 99.5% ?!?!?!
I take it Rocket Man hasn’t posted recently?

According to interviews by both Wilder and Bettis, the Cannon deal came about as a follow up from our original interest in the summer, which ended up not being taken further because, ironically for this thread, we didn't have sufficient funding left to make a deal with Leicester (which at the time would have been another loan as I recall).

Wilder wasn't looking to pursue Cannon in January, until COH brought him up as a potential option. Wilder gave his blessing, the owners sanctioned it, and a short time later, we're £10million out of pocket.

Based on what people have said who would have been in prime position to know the exact course of events, it wasn't a case of Wilder proclaiming that promotion would be certain, if COH backed him in signing Cannon.

I think most people at the time, and everyone now with the benefit of hindsight, can say that the Cannon transfer was a mistake. We had other positions of greater importance to try and shore up (CB), and Cannon has not justified the price tag thus far by a long shot. But it doesn't appear to be the case that Wilder instigated the approach in January - he just agreed with it.

Got to give this snotty nosed kid from Cardiff, some credit here. He's wound nearly every blades fans up😂.... he's probably laughing his fucking head off now😉

Wilder would have received far more stick had he made that claim. Has it ever been attributed to him before?

Not really wound everybody up. He obviously frequents supporters forums, picks up on the negatives and waits for the clicks. Modern journalism sadly.

Reading it in this thread is the first time I've seen it. No idea if it's been claimed elsewhere.

But yeah, he'd have been absolutely slammed if he'd actually said that
