I would like us to also go deep in one of the cups. Its the thrill of the journey that it offers, however much you tell me, there is always the hope of cup success, until there isn't.
I've found our recent cup performances both disappointing and negative.
Having a decent cup run helps to build confidence in not only the team, but the fans also get engaged as they start to believe that something exciting is going to happen.
The idea to play a team of reserves/youngsters against what should be inferior opposition just doesn't make sense.

I love the way he says the new owners modern approach has ripped the DNA out of this club. Is he acknowledging that we're an old school club, who were run the old school way, where we had an old school manager with an old school approach? Maybe this old school journalist needs to wake up and live in the present and realise that nostalgia wins you nothing and refusing to change will always leave you behind. Football has moved forward and Sheffield United hasn't.

If we get 20 less points than last season and finish 6th but I actually enjoy watching United next season, I'll be a happy Blade.

Too many times last season, I was bored shitless by Wilderball 2.0, the lack of atmosphere in the stands at the Lane had a lot to do with the turgid football being played on the pitch.

A high pressing, aggressive team that scores more than 1 goal per game, might get the place rocking again.
100% agree with this

In Biggs latest Star article https://www.thestar.co.uk/sport/foo...ed-ruben-selles-coh-sports-alan-biggs-5198316
(pointed out by Lord Eddard Muir ) in shoutbox Biggs states……
I understand the investor calling most of the shots for COH Sports is a “data scientist” called James Bord - who, very appropriately for such a gambling approach, is a renowned poker player (with no known football experience).
Errrrr Bord co-owns another football club…

Well you know what will happen don't you? Next season, we will somehow get into Europe but so will dunfermline and we won't be allowed 🤣

As i understand it he’s only a resource to us at the moment and doesn’t have a stake in the club. However, I read somewhere he may be coming into the consortium., maybe if and when he’s sold his stake in Dunfermline. 🤷‍♂️

I will wait till transfer window closes, to cast my vote, see which players leave, see what our recruitment is like,

Been impressed with selles in his interviews, liked the way he said to staton on radio sheffield that he would have final say on transfers, which was a big concern of mine

Think it's a big summer for the owners, how much they are prepared to back him, to help him sign the players he wants

Up the blades

I might vote on this, but not yet. Too many unknowns at play to give a proper view of things yet, in my opinion at least:

  • How are we going to set up tactically?
  • Who are we going to sign?
  • Who are we going to sell?

We won't get a thoroughly answer to any of these, at least until the first pre-season friendly. Selles has said we're going to play a high-tempo style with wingers, but that doesn't define much. We could play a back 3 or back 4. We could play 1 striker or 2. We could play 2 in midfield, or 3, in all sorts of possible configurations.

My preliminary thought is that our existing squad, combined with a tactic that is more proactive and deliberate in attack, would be a sure fire way to at least match our league position under Wilder. But there's a lot of time for things to change between now and the start of the season.

3rd to 6th

Mainly because of the weakness of the division, and the quality we'll probably hang on to

If we're any lower then there will be floods of vitriol aimed at the owners and they'll completely deserve it

Burnley have done ok, the last twice in the Championship. Massive overall of the squads each time and promoted each time.
It can be done providing the player's buy into the new system and are positive about it.
If player's can't play or buy into the system they need to be moved on.
Style of football last season was dire at times.

Too early.
Need to do it every week - 'events dear boy' as they say.
Ipswich expected to go up as apparently no need to sell it's been said by experts - despite spending 100 million was it????
Leicester the best lawyers outside Man City always get away with murder so will they go back or fire sale as rumoured?
Southampton expected to keep most players after high sales last relegation. Straight back if manager is decent not Pepshit clone when promoted last season.
Birmingham saying they will go up - but no chance if Stansfield is their best player - mediocre U-21's and another Cannon balls by the look of it.
Wrexham think saying same but well below Brum last year.

Who will we sell for how much?
Who will we buy/sign eg July 1st to bed in or loan by window end and next window.

I've guessed playoffs - but hoping for auto.

I think we will be ok,

Top 2 if he's backed and hits the ground running.
Play offs if we don't start the season with all our business done.

There are parallels to the Slav appointment here…. New ideas into an embedded successful side

So How does Selles avoid doing a Slav?

hopefully selles being appointed now and presumably with owners who will actually let him sign some players to fit his system / ideas would help. Slav was really hung out to dry by the princes finances and given essentially an over the hill 3-5-2 squad

The reinforcements are signed quickly so that he gets a preseason with the squad (didn’t really have one at reading with the chaos, and didn’t have one with hull) to get his ideas across. A slow / poor start will have calls for his head before September. So it’s key the preseason is used to get how he wants to play across. (I’d even consider extra behind closed doors games.)

The gaps in the squad (RB, AM, CB, Wingers) are all filled with players suitable for top end championship - rather than just Bulgarian Yoots.

I Would have definitely kept wilder for this season, but given its happened I am at least cautiously curious about how it’s going to look. With the gap to the PL we may never be an established PL club so we may as well enjoy the football we’re playing.

The defensive record at Hull (4th best I believe) combined with some good attacking results including smashing us - means I can at least hope to see a style that with better players could be effective AND entertaining.
The problem, from what I've heard from people working at Hull City, is that Mr Selles is a brilliant tactician, and excellent strategist, but that his man-management skills and all round communication are pretty poor. In that sense, some on here might view him as the very opposite to Mr Wilder. They think that one of the main things that Wilder excelled at, team bonding, a unified dressing room etc, could disappear and be replaced by pure tactics with next to no charm. I'm looking forward to a new era, but think Selles needs a very positive start result wise to get the players backing and believing in, what sounds a very different personality from what they're used to.

Well every interview I've heard with a player who has played under aelles says the opposite

The dressing room wasn’t fantastically unified throughout last season and not all of the players loved playing for Wilder. Professional players have to get used to being managed by very different personality types, otherwise their careers won’t last very long.
