Just to be pedantic, due to starting the season with a minus two points deduction, winning the "three games" (Oxford, etc.) that get mentioned, would have us ending the season on 99 points, still not enough for automatic, and still having to go to Wembley.

Get that completely but if we had won those 3, (as we should have done) we would have been going into the Burnley away game on the back of a 9 game, ( 8 wins and 1 draw) run and it would have put a whole different perspective on things. Still, we didn't and 90 points, (or 92, whatever way you look at it) was not enough. Those 3 wins would have piled the pressure on Burnley and Leeds and it could have ended differently, ultimately though, our failure to take points from Leeds, Burnley and Sunderland was our downfall and without doubt, that was down to Wilder.

People say the 2 points didn't matter but I really do think it played a part. It gave us far less room for error. Imagine being 6 points clear for that game and losing wouldn't be as bad. The pressure clearly got to us that week

This appointment doesn’t make me excited or angry. As far as I know, he was good but not great at Reading and similar at Hull. As far as I know he’s not particular brilliant at anything, but you’d hope he’d be better at a better club.

I would not go as far as to say I am excited by the appointment but I am now at least interested in seeing how we will set up and play, and that’s a big positive as since the end of the play off final I have not managed to summon up any interest in United or in Football at all.

Speaking to a Hull fan, he’s a good organiser and good at sorting the defence out. Great with young players. Counterpoint to that was he is a controlled game manager and will protect a lead with more conservative substitutions and tweaks.
