Just to be pedantic, due to starting the season with a minus two points deduction, winning the "three games" (Oxford, etc.) that get mentioned, would have us ending the season on 99 points, still not enough for automatic, and still having to go to Wembley.

Get that completely but if we had won those 3, (as we should have done) we would have been going into the Burnley away game on the back of a 9 game, ( 8 wins and 1 draw) run and it would have put a whole different perspective on things. Still, we didn't and 90 points, (or 92, whatever way you look at it) was not enough. Those 3 wins would have piled the pressure on Burnley and Leeds and it could have ended differently, ultimately though, our failure to take points from Leeds, Burnley and Sunderland was our downfall and without doubt, that was down to Wilder.

People say the 2 points didn't matter but I really do think it played a part. It gave us far less room for error. Imagine being 6 points clear for that game and losing wouldn't be as bad. The pressure clearly got to us that week
I half expected this from you at some point. The word obsessed doesn’t even begin to do it justice! 😂😂

This appointment doesn’t make me excited or angry. As far as I know, he was good but not great at Reading and similar at Hull. As far as I know he’s not particular brilliant at anything, but you’d hope he’d be better at a better club.

"When we first heard about the possibility of coming here, it was a no brainer for us to join a club with this kind of history and with a mission to move forward and try to be even more competitive. This is a very powerful and ambitious project. It was very important at the start of the conversations that everyone is on the same page. We need to embrace data and new technologies, but the most important thing is not to forget the football essence. I think we are capable of delivering a good model and optimise our performance by using all the tools that we have. Our identity is always very clear. We want to be aggressive, we want to make things happen. So, the fans can expect a team which is not going to wait or be reactive, we will be proactive, we are going to go and try and be as competitive as we can in every single game. If we can do that then we'll give ourselves a very good chance of winning games."

I would not go as far as to say I am excited by the appointment but I am now at least interested in seeing how we will set up and play, and that’s a big positive as since the end of the play off final I have not managed to summon up any interest in United or in Football at all.

I'm hoping for the best here. But also very conscious that things could get very hostile from the fans very quickly if he doesn't hit the ground running. We need to do some impressive transfer business now to calm the nerves a bit.

I’ve read none of this thread, I dare’nt, can someone give me any pro’s as to why we’ve appointed him rather than the cons ?

Need to spend big and hit the ground running. If he has a rocky start the fanbase will turn quicker than a spinning top.

Was that Wilder or Sellès statement?

Speaking to a Hull fan, he’s a good organiser and good at sorting the defence out. Great with young players. Counterpoint to that was he is a controlled game manager and will protect a lead with more conservative substitutions and tweaks.

The past is the past, time to look forward.
