Didn’t they beat us twice? I don’t really need to google how a league table works. I think you might need to figure out how promotions work though.
Well we weren't discussing promotion so not sure what that's got to do with anything. Its just weird to pretend that we didn't compete with them. I dont understand why you would try and deny that when we all know where we finished.

Imagine a Wednesday fan saying how Middlesbrough couldn't compete with them last season. Imagine how mental that would be. This is the same.

No mate, we definitely need to look at how tables work.

Apparently, promotion doesn't matter - its all about how many points you get, not what you achieve

...they weren't competing with each other?

Boro finished 8th, aiming for the playoffs. Wednesday finished 20th. They weren't competing with each other as they both had different targets.

The mental gymnastics you're doing to justify this season as a success is utterly shambolic, but tbh you said that we deserved promotion so tbh I think you may have no idea what you're talking about

Finished 3rd = promotion just because.

This guy also agrees we didn't compete with Sunderland last year. Just laughable. The argument itself and pretending to actually believe it.

You can mock but the argument is did we compete with Sunderland last season. And the person arguing we did because we finished miles above them you're mocking. That's your opinion on this. We didn't compete with Sunderland last year. And to say we did deserves mocking.

How petty do you actually have to be to pretend that just to try and win this ridiculous argument?

Honestly you people are incredible.

Yeah you're 100% a WUM, genuinely ashamed its taken me this long to realise

Hes saying we didn't compete with Sunderland last season which I'm pointing out is ridiculous. Don't agree about Wembley but that's not my argument.

If you think we didn't compete with Sunderland last season then you are just wrong and I don't think you can understand football.
I have to accept that you know much more about football than I do. Consider me educated.

In the real world…

Fundamentally, it’s not really about how we competed against Sunderland all last season. During the main season we were exceptional (barring a showing from Sellès’ Hull and that pitiful Easter period) at closing out wins against the weaker sides in the division but we were fighting two weight classes up against Burnley and Leeds and didn’t have a clue how to bridge the gap.

It then turns into a knockout competition. At that point, we didn’t compete with Sunderland once we went ahead. We launched the ball into space but poor decision making from both players (Moore x2, Brooks, Robinson) and manager (subs, tactical shift to 4-2-3-1 and back to 4-4-2) meant we ran out of ideas and they capitalised. We should have kept the ball, made them work but we didn’t. We deserved to lose, Sunderland didn’t necessarily deserve to win but they had the momentum and took their chances when they came.

If he was going to switch the formation then in my opinion Wilder should have gone to 3-5-2, tucking the wingbacks in when they had the ball and congesting the middle of the pitch. They had no height so letting them have the flanks wasn’t a risk. Holding in the middle of the back three would have calmed it down; Seriki’s pace down the right would have helped get us up the pitch. Davies, Souza and Hamer in the middle to control possession, Moore holding the ball up with Cannon/Brewster playing off him.

But then what do I know?

We lost to them twice and once in the most important game when they were playing poorly. Your incredible, we lost crucial games against promotion rivals and you can't get your head around why the new owners want someone else in charge.

Also, is Wilder going to personally cough up the cash on those fines or do you reckon the club are going to be left with the tab?

We're discussing if we competed with Sunderland last season. If you're too stupid to understand what's being discussed don't get involved

I dont know or care about the fines and I think it's pathetic that you are upset by them.

We only won 1 out 3 games against them. The fact we were x amount of points ahead of them is irrelevant.

It's not irrelevant if the question is did we compete with them though is it? Surely you do see that?

It is relevant in terms of promotion you're right, but that's not the discussion

We lost twice but to say we didn't compete in both of those games is a lie and whoever is trying to say that is either the Wind up merchant or blinded by their pre set thoughts on it all 🤷‍♂️

They were 22nd. He got them to 21st.

I can appreciate on the face of it why some are underwhelmed
Some of my Wendy mates I grew up with are laughing and think we are bonkers so it's not hard to see why some are sceptical..
You’d think they’d be winding their necks in currently? It always bites them in the arse.

Well that means he'll win us 100 points next season, nailed on
Law of averages suggests them 1nils wilder "masterminded" turn into draws or defeats as they started to towards the end of the season without a change, and Wilder was never gonna change enough, the only way was down the table, logically after watching us all season

I'm really excited by this
I think he is exactly what we need
I see it like a Championship version of wenger following graham at arsenal where all the fundamentals are there ( except for a few defenders ) now it needs a bit of va va voom
Frank, thank f*** somebody is on the same page. The club needs to "modernise," something the new owners want, which means we need to take the gamble, as the present set up is not going to cut it. There’s also the chance that the new set up won't cut it straight away but we have to start somewhere. You comment about Wenger. Arsenal took the gamble in 1996, Arsene Wenger, who the f*** is he, he's managed Grampus Eight in Japan, who the f*** are they, said many Arsenal supporters and many others in English football. His previous CV wasn't particularly gold plated. The rest, including 3 Premier League Titles and 7 FA Cup wins is history. His contribution to English football was revolutionary regarding scouting/recruitment, training methods and diet/nutrition regimes. If it is to be Selles then, yeah, no gold plated CV, but his qualifications and experience to date all seem to fit the bill for "modernisation" the route the new owners want to pursue.

We lost 2 of 3 against them, including one that cost us promotion - that's called not competing
You sir are not being honest.
Sunderland did not deserve to go up.
You could play that game 10 times and United would win 8 of them.
Sunderland Completely fluked it at Wembley after being totally outplayed. They were incredibly lucky to only be 1 down in the last 10 minutes, due to 2 very spozzy saves and the worst VAR fuck up in history.
He's gone but give Wilder some respect. If we do as well next season as last we'll all be delighted but it's a fucking tall ask of anyone coming in!

Tbf we invited them on from the VAR decision really we dropped our heads and it needed some proper leadership to bring us back, and it didn't happen

I will never forget what Chris did for us, never. That said if it’s come to an end I will fully get behind the new man whether that is Selles or someone else. I’m a United fan not a fan of any player or manager. Bloody hell I was even desperate for Danny Wilson to succeed so if I can do that I can support any new manager.

I mean Sunderland came back in it because Wilder went full on cautious, if you want to be honest

It’s highly unlikely Sunderland play that poorly 10 times given the amount of possession we just let them have as well

Yes we were the better team, knocked them down, had them on a count then danced around hoping to not get caught with a sucker punch until we got caught with a sucker punch

It’s a cup competition there is no such thing as deserved just did or didn’t do. How many games did we win when in truth we weren’t the better side? Quite a few I reckon. Sunderland scored two we scored one. It’s completely as simple as that.
