I agree that it's not what it once was but I still get a buzz at the prospect of making it to the 3rd round and drawing a Premier League team - we're not going to be playing any in the short term otherwise!

That's a bot optimistic isn't it?
Given our recent record of bowing out to L2 or L1 teams in the early stages we will be lucky to be still in the ball bag this time Sunday neet.

err... we haven't bowed out in the FA Cup to a lower league team for 7 years and only twice in the last 21. In fact, since the PL came in , we have been knocked out by PL teams in 14 out of 21 years.

2013: Reading PL
2012: Birmingham Ch
2011: Villa PL
2010 Bolton PL
2009 Hull PL
2008 Boro PL
2007 Swansea L1
2006: Colchester L1
2005: Arsenal PL
2004: Sunderland Ch
2003: Arsenal PL
2002: Preston Ch
2001: Southampton PL
2000: Newcastle PL
1999: Arsenal PL
1998: Newcastle PL
1997 Norwich Ch
1996: Villa PL
1995: Man Utd PL
1994L Man Utd PL
1993: Sheff Wed PL

In fact you can go back even further. In the 31 seasons since 1982-83, we have only 3 times been knocked out by teams outside the top two tiers. The two above and Derby in 1986.

You're probably thinking of the League Cup - we are regularly dumped out of that by lower league teams - in 4 out of the last 5 seasons for example :)

More than likely I was Darren, more than likely I was - but don't get past the point that you are undeniably a very Smart Arse, Dazzler - And I don't mean that in the biblical sense

BTW - that is not meant to be derogatory in any way. I am in awe of the retained knowledge and recall that you have.

If we lose at Colchester won't give a shit.

Lose against Gillingham I'll be on a right downer

To be fair it's the only angle he hasn't shown us on his latest av so at best it's just a guess

I could do you that, but it would probably get me banned.....

Ref the League Cup - its Sheffield United's gesture to fans of how to make money at the bookies. (Just in case anyone hasn't noticed!!!)

I hope we don't have a repeat of 2006 tomorrow then...

I used to love the 3rd round when I was a nipper. Full of expectation that somehow this year I,d see my beloved Blades climb the Wembley steps to collect the cup. I remember in 1970 us beating top flight Everton and thinking this could be our year. We went out in the following round.

Now the 1st round just fills me with dread.

It seems that for those not going and sitting at home that a little google search may help see how bad it really is. Cough cough if you know what I mean.

Remember that not so well known saying:-

"When the year ends in three the Blades reach the Semi"

The omens are good ;)

I'm off to St Albans City v Mansfield Town today, first time in 33 years St Albans have played a league side. Really looking forward to it. That's the magic of the FA Cup.

"At one time going to the FA Cup final at Wembley, and lifting the cup was every lad and players dream."

NOT if your a BLADE thats a Miracle

In Xmas 1969 I was excited to open my main xmas present which was Scalextric. Enjoyed it for a week (no recollection of us playing at Huddersfield on Boxing Day or the home game against Watford on 28th Dec) . I was aware that we had beaten Everton by 2-1 in the cup on the Saturday. My dad was watching highlights of the game on YTV in the next day so I watched it with my dad. I was so impressed and decided to go to the net home game (v Preston on Jan 17th) and then became a regular at BDTBL so I got less interested in Scalextric!

Fa cup games for me far out way the league - would you rather watch us against manure or gillingham next week?

I'd rather us won the fa cup in the next five years than get promoted to the prem in the next five..
