Has the Prince actually helped us?

Sorry to pick up on your post cahill, but I was in the same position as yourself. One poster on here abruptly assumed I was being disingenuous about not knowing who J. Phillips was meant to be. It would seem that I'm one of those few individuals who rarely uses social networking sites, which includes Twitter, so it seems that two and two were put together and the figure of five was incorrectly arrived at. Not everyone here keeps up to speed with all matters relating to the Blades. It doesn't make us any less passionate about the team we all love, just that we, or maybe that's I, prefer to lead a life where football plays just one part alongside several other things.

From all accounts Jim Phipps is an employee of the Prince, the co-owner of SUFC, and acts as a pulse-taker for the mood of the supporters. By all accounts he's well regarded so presumably he must be doing a good job, whatever that might be.

Do you think anyone is looking for an issue? I see it as an honest question of what do you think the influence/input of the Prince has been. If some want to see it as an issue they are free to do so, others will take a different slant on it. I'd rather be discussing this than worrying about russian invasion of Ukraine.

As for the J Phillips/Jim Phipps thing, I don't buy it. I think you were pointing out a mistake in an oblique manner.

Bladesway - what happened to "Let it drop, it's gone"?

You're obviously referring to myself when you say I employed an oblique device to say I was unaware of J.Phillips/Jim Phipps...so why not just come out and say you think I'm a liar? I read your post where you said "Let it drop..." but it seems you wish to continue with this. I'll say it again, and if there's any lack of clarity, please read #31, I was not fully aware of Jim Phipps or his role, so any confusion about J.Phillips was, I think, understandable on my part. I've no need or desire to be oblique, disingenuous, or suggest something other than the truth.

Oh, and the poster I was referring to was Highbury_Blade, not yourself.

The OP asked a good question. The prince is clearly quite happy, for whatever reason, to let Jim Phipps be his front man and Jim doesn't seem to be putting a foot wrong.

Jim's listening to fans, engaging fans and trying to take action on getting that connection back between the club and fans. The soft stuff.

Onto the football side, the prince came in and oversaw the one of the worst periods of results for many years alongside team performances to match. I really didn't know where we were going when we lost Weir. But the appointment of Clough has been a masterstroke, in some ways we got some luck that he was available, but the appointment has been beyond what many of us hoped.

Keeping Morgs in place is also a great move, the link up between the academy, development squad and first team seems better now.

The purse strings have been loosened since Wilson was sacked, Brayford would've been doubtful financially, but improbable without Clough. Scougall's capture has so far been fantastic.

I'm sure how much of the above can directly be attributed to the Prince, but there have been too many positives since Clough to be a coincidence.

I don't think the other 50% owner should be left out of this either. He paved the way for the Prince to come in, seems to have relinquished some of his grip and is also now sitting in the background a lot more. Since Clough was appointed we've hardly heard from him either.

I think once this season is over it would be good to see some real plans being put into action by the Prince and McCabe. Then we'll really start to see the impact of the Prince.
 
I think a lot of people forget about the running of the club as a going concern. They concentrate on buying and selling players but what about paying off the electricity bill, water rates, staff wages (and pensions!), bog rolls etc?

McCabe was writing the cheques every month to cover this. Not sure if that's still the case?
 

On a different note, I'm a little surprised that the Prince hasn't been over to watch the matches more often.
I know he went to Rotherham away and Villa in the cup but I thought he might have made the trip over for Forest.
Will he be over for Charlton?
It's about as good as it gets at the moment and he might be missing out on some of the best Bladey occassions he's ever likely to see.

Swizzler, You had me until you came to the point about the 50% other owner but you knew that would always be the case. To his credit he of course made this happen and begrudgingly I have to credit him that. I think him reliquishing his grip has actually been one of the biggest benefits because it appears we stopped making stupid decisions the minute McCabe melted into the background.

I think some of us are still braced for the wheels coming off but thats the way we are. In fairness to all concerned the past month or so has been a real turnaround. Personally I don't care who takes the credit I am just so happy that SUFC is a better place to be at last.

That's the bit I was getting at. People wanting to have the last word and carrying on an argument for the sake of it, just let it drop. Opinions are like arseholes, everyone has one. You just have to agree to disagree instead of trying every way of enforcing your own opinion.

I love the thought that we could afford to sign Brayford because McCabe implemented a three sheets per shite system and restricted staff to two dumps per day. :D

Bog rolls? Where? I've never seen any in the kop bogs but more to the point, who would actually have a crap in those bogs? I think it would be more hygienic to do it in your pants and deal with it later.

I tried to word it very carefully. :D. I don't want my comments to turn into a discussion about McCabes past action at the club etc, but I belief it should be acknowledged that he has adopted a different approach since the prince came in.

The Prince and Jim Phipps sacked David Weir (rightfully despite the protestations of some), and appointed the man who is the best manager this club has had in years.

What we have seen has so far has been slow and steady. It has been much better to do it that way than going out and throwing silly money at it
