Going back many years Derek Hawksworth was good left winger.
I well remember him skimming Alf Ramsey good victory at the Lane.
Then followed Grainger who eventually we sold to Sunderland.

I read that Sub Ian Bowyer was the only City player that tried really hard in that match and scored twice in between Tony Coleman's goal. Also I read thay City were awarded a penalty but Mike Doyle "passed" the ball to keeper Peter Grummitt
Certainly did Mike Doyle indicated where he was going to put it, and rolled it on the ground. One of the most blatant bit of cheating I have ever seen. Right about bowyer to, he hadn't read the script. I have never seen a team trying not to win a game like man city did that night. Still South Barnsley were not good enough

That's exactly how it went. There were plenty of us Blades kids on their kop including a girl from our school, High Storrs, with a Man City rosette on! City were in those red and black stripes.

Wilf Smith said something to Doyle as he was about to take the pen and he just rolled it at the keeper much to our fury. Bowyer didn't seem to be in on the general plan not to be nasty to Wednesday and did them virtually single handed.

I was there that night with my Wendy brother-in-law. I loved the last 20 minutes when Bowyer dumped them. The wednesday stand seat cushions were thrown onto the pitch in their hundreds. A great night!

I remember watching the Stoke v West Ham League Cup semi final replay at S6 in 1972, it was a boring game that went into extra time and ended in a 0-0 draw. From the North Stand countless seat cushions were thrown onto the pitch!

The 'Late,Great' Gilbert Ivor Reece & Geoff Salmons (from when I was a nipper) Alex Sabella a bit later and Jocky Bryson / Dane Whitehouse - great memories from all those players.

If I had to choose 1 then - Sabella for his pure skill.

Shame Sabella wasn't there in 75 we would have walked a Europe place

Watched Sheffield United vs Sunderland, what a team we had that day! New signing and the return of Brian Deane, Dane Whitehouse on the left and Vass Borbokis scoring a screamer from right back. Good old days (clough will bring them back for us)

Dane Whitehouse won the vote for best left midfielders since 1980 (59% of the vote).

Seem to remember us smashing Chelsea 4-2 at the Lane early 90's (Chelsea scored 2 in last 5 mins) last home game of the season.

Think Dane put 2 away (someone will correct me if wrong) and he was unplayable in the first half - gave Dennis Wise the five finger shuffle sign when he started mouthing off.

If only we could have kept hold of our best players rather than get shut ......

Rufus.

As long as the board doesn't sell them all again.

There was a thread a couple of weeks ago regarding 'Superstitions'. I mentioned hating the white shorts. In 1968 we played Chelsea final game of the season lost 0-2 and relegated.

In 1993 we played in white shorts and were scheduled to play Chelsea last game of season. Being superstitious I thought this has got relegation written all over it. Course as you say Rufus we won 4-2 (remember Scott scoring). No relegation.

I tried telling myself to quit this stupid superstitious stuff.

Next season 1993/94. White shorts. Fixtures show us playing Chelsea last game of season. Well we all know what happened there.

We returned to wearing black shorts for that game against Chelsea (the decision was due to our poor home record as the last time we won a home game was against Spurs in February) . Mick Hill gave us the lead in the 1st half. After half time peter Osgood equalised and then Tommy Baldwin headed in their winner
