After Sunday and the Penalty, can i be the first to call him the Bearded Space Invader.

Just been speaking to a couple of lads on coach and apparently they have started a campaign with their mates to try and show john brayford how much we appreciate him at the lane and to show him how much we want him to stay beyond his loan spell even though it is a long shot.

might seem a bit daft to some but if you are twitter drop the beard a message of support letting him know how class he is and how much you want him to stay at the lane @brayfordjohn and sign it off with the hashtag #stayatlane

feel free to spread this on to as many blades mates with twitter than you know the more the better. I told these lads how sound the people are on this forum so dont me down :D

It can't do any harm mate. I fear the deciding factors in whether Brayford stays are (a) Do we remain in this division? (b) Will he want to remain? (c) If he seems in favour of staying can we match his Cardiff wages?...and there are probably other questions to add to that list. I think he knows what we think about him, so it's really about whether we are right for him and can we afford him, nothing more complicated than that UTB

a) Yes we'll still be in league one next season
b) Maybe if c == true
c) No

Highbury_Blade, given that the first two are more positive than negative, the third might be where the Prince plays a part, especially if Nigel can bend his ear back and convince the Prince of Brayford's value to future promotion attempts.

So to summarise...

We want player to stay. It comes down to:

a) does he want to stay
b) can we afford him

If Benedict Cumberbatch ever gets the sack... :)

staying in league 1 next season is not a positive. It's more positive than getting relegated for sure, but i think the minimum league brayford would want to drop to is the championship.

If by some miracle we do make the playoffs this season and get promoted, then the case would be a lot stronger. But i doubt Brayford at this stage in his career would want to drop two divisions on a permanent basis.

You could well be correct mate. But having negotiated a lot of contracts myself, I know that all it might take is a creative individual to conjure up something that gives Brayford, say, a year in which we have to guarantee promotion (can't see it this season) or he is free to look elsewhere. If we gain promotion within that year the agreement then extends to a further two or three years.

Just a thought, but I'd never have thought we'd see his like here at this point in time. One can hope. Realistically you are probably spot on in your predictions.

I think that there are at least two more questions to take into account:-

d) What division will Cardiff be playing next season?
e) Has he moved house to South Wales, or is he still living in the East Midlands?

Fair and relevant questions mate. Earlier I asked what I thought were reasonable questions myself, but some bright spark chose to make light of this, never mind, the future of our right back is far more important than the nitpicking of one individual.

If you manage to catch Brayford's tweets he comments on how relatively inexpensive property is in Sheffield. Make of that what you will.

I would imagine alot will depend on if Cardiff are relegated & whether they will want him back.

If they dont get relegated then i think he will stay there for another crack.

If they go down & they make it clear to him that he is not in their plans....what then?

Clubs suddenly find a group of players that get on , Brayford is obviously benefiting from being here , now.
All of the loans are pulling their weight and seem keen to carry on the spirit they are creating, its a two way scenario , the clubs benefiting and the players are, its something that just clicks and they seem to be raising each others games, long may it reign .

If he does go then I hope he will be kind enough to leave us his beard.
